This is a tough question but people on this forum are supposed to be smart. There are vitamins B-1, B-2, B-3, B-5, B-6 and B-12. Then are are B vitamiins like folic acid (folate) that is very important but has no number. What happened to B-4. Why can't they make folate B-4 to replace the B-4 that dissappeared. I do not know if it ever was there. Here is an IQ question. What is wrong with this sequence? 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6.

From here... Adenine (Vitamin B-4) combines with the sugar ribose to form adenosine, which in turn can be bonded with from one to three phosphoric acid units, yielding the three nucleotides adenosine monophosphate , adenosine diphosphate, and adenosine triphosphate . These adenine derivatives perform important functions in cellular metabolism. Adenine is one of four nitrogenous bases utilized in the synthesis of nucleic acids . A modified form of adenosine monophosphate is thought to be a secondary messenger in the propagation of many hormonal stimuli. Adenine is an integral part of the structure of many coenzymes. . |

Thanks for the info but it still does not explain why it is not in books or on the internet. I have many nutrition books including Nutrition for Life. It is copyright 2005 and has a cover price of $30. It is by an MD and an RD (registered dietition). It tells about the other B vitamins but not B-4. So was it taken away since the body can make it. A vitamin is a substance the body needs but cannot produce itself. |

I reguarly look at my college textbooks on nutrition and that is the definition of a vitamin. What you said disagrees with every source on the internet and every book that I have seen. Also I looked at the site that you got that info from and it disagrees with every other site out there. Can you you find one other site that agrees with his site. HE MENTIONS B15 and B17. Do a internet search and you will see it says there is no mention of B4, B15 and B17 anywhere. In addition to other books on nutrition mentioned, I also own Nutrition Almanac (4th editon-- 1996-- 2.5 million sold). My old karate teacher had 98 sites show up with a search for his name. Then I put his name on my site 3 months ago and now it is 6th out of those 99. So I guess you are suggesting I create my own nutrition info like biovitamins krep and jsallp and then put them on my site. Then I can mention them and when someone says they do not exist I can say, do a search and the search will show my website. I may do this so some day when my site is very big for certain nutrients that I invented, you can tell people that you gave me the idea. So the first ones will be biovitamins O-3, O-6, O-7 and O-9 for the omega fatty acids. By the way I was playing around with the above. My brothers name was not on the internet according to searches. So I put his name on my site and now a search for his name shows 1 result. I wanted to see how long I could create something on the web that would show up on the web. in fact if I hate someone I could put up that that person sucks and a search would reveal that. But the terms on that guy's site you used does not show up in searches. Did he make that stuff up about B4, 15 and 17? |

B-4 was removed as the "infinitely wise" FDA determined that B-4 may be beneficial to pigeons, but not humans. To answer another poster, Since B-4 (adenine) was assigned this designation, it cannot be reassigned to folate, or any other nutritional factor. The fact is that B vitamins naturally divide into 2 different groups: Those that are soluble in alcohol, and another group that is not. B-4 is soluble in alcohol, is an anti-paralysis vitamin, and is a nerve impulse promoting factor. Special yeast are the primary source of highly active B-4. B-4 would be indicated in irregular heartbeat, fibrillation, or where there is a block in the Bundle of Hiss (BBB-bundle branch block), as well as blood sugar imbalances, hypOtension, CTS (carpal tunnel syndrome), depression/anxiety, poor muscle tonicity, twitches and vasomotor control.
