Default Scar Treatment

I have been struggling to get rid of my self-mutilating scars for six years now. I have scars on my left forearm and my ankle, and I have been applying cocoa butter/vitamin E on them for years but they are still there.

Does anyone know of any product that will help them fade more and/or cosmetic surgery? I am in the psych field and I do not want others to see these scars!

Thanks

Scar tissue is not identical to the tissue which it replaces and is usually of inferior functional quality. Therefore short of cosmetic surgery (which I know nothing about) it is totally useless to try to make them disappear…

In other words… what you see on your arm and ankle is not skin… but scar tissues… and, no matter what… it will never be skin again…

However you can always explain them as being the result of an accident...

^^ Thanks, shamou for responding. I am disappointed that I have to live with these scars but I guess there is nothing that I can do!

This may surprise you but Dr Maxwell Maltz (who wrote Psycho-Cybernetic) tell us that people can be proud of having scars... as it can be a sign of courage or surviving an ordeal successfully...

Since your scars were self-inflicted... you may pursue that avenue... you obviously lived through some very rough times and came out of it a winner... so, why not decide to be proud of those scars rather than be shamed by them...???

I'd would love to have your take on that...

Shamou,

I agree with what you are saying. There are times when I look at my scars and I DO feel proud and thankful that I am no longer in that state of mind. But there are other times that I feel very sad and ashamed of my scars...and I feel very embarrassed when others ask me about them. I tell them the truth (which makes me very uncomfortable) and I just wish I could make them vanish!

Thanks for the post!!

dulaney0330...

There is probably little you can do physically about the scars on you body... but I don't believe that they are the real problem...

The real problem are probably the scars on your psyche... those are the ones that really hurt while the scars on your body are but a symbol and reminder of those psychic scars...

Fortunately... there is something that you can do about those emotional scars... the first being to forgive yourself..,

If you could see deep down in the soul of people... you would find out that you are not the only one who needs forgiving... and that maybe, you are not so bad after all...

Dulaney, please consider seeing a dermatologist. They can do amazing things with laser these days.

On Laser Scar Revision...

"Surgical related scars were found to be especially receptive to laser treatment when the laser was applied shortly after the original scar-producing surgery was performed."

I probably will not be able to get this treatment because of the expenses, but at least the option is always available!

Dulaney, some doctors will let you make monthly payments. I know of a woman who bartered her computer networking skills for laser treatment to remove unwanted facial hair. Perhaps there's some way you can work this out. Like you said, it's always an option

One thing you may want to try in addition to everything else is to take Serrapeptase. It's an enzyme silk worms produce to get out of their cocoons in a hurry. It works for people by helping your body to digest dead proteins. It can help with a LOT of conditions aside from scar tissue. Google it and you will see what I mean!

Best wishes to you!

Default Scars

Well, without a doubt the scars that you HAD on the inside were more visible to you and everybody else than the ones on your arms. I hope you love yourself now as much as God loves you. God made you perfectly in his own image. If you have a great self image of yourself it will be reflected in your overall aura, smile, and how you present yourself.
As far as the actually scars, they won't go away, however they will get lighter and less noticeable as time goes on. A few things I would recommend. Direct sun exposure for 10 to 15 mintues per day, as close to noon as possible. Your skin will absorb vitamin D from the sun which is great for the skin. A diet full of fruits and vegetables over several months will help. I've noticed this during a vegan diet, that scars start to fade a little. Also, this is a wild one, but purchase the book The Silva Method by Jose Silva. Basically you use your mind using alpha waves to further heal yourself and to fade the scars.

I do not feel that this is a very hot idea... scar tissues have no pigmentation... so they will remain white... whereas the surrounding skin will be more tanned and offer a sharper contrast... thus making the scars more visible...

Listen to what Shamou the Killer Whale has to say. He is a whale and knows what the sun can do to skin.

Shamou,

I have found this to be true! Good thing that I pale because tan skin seems to make them more noticeable.

dulaney, Those scars are a testament to the powerful person you are. If you do want them gone, I would say try some of the suggestions people here have given, but they could be points of conversation, helping others to relate and know you went through what they are going through. It may just help them have the courage to open up to you. Maybe you had to go down the path that left you with these scars to be able to help others. Just my thoughts. I hope you are able to find a cost effective way to remove them if you really want to. Have you tried any of those otc products like Mederma?

Thank you for confirming my claim...

Now, please try to forget about those scars... if you do forget... so will everyone else...
