First off, great idea. I know you're not exactly "just starting out", but here's are a couple things I would've liked to know when I started training about a year ago. 1. Post the workouts you do every day. Post every detail- how many reps you completed, how fast you did your runs, everything. 2. Give 100% when you work out. Don't stop doing pushups because you think you can't do any more, stop when you absolutely physically can't do any more. Don't jog, run. The goal of each workout is to challenge your body. If you don't challenge yourself, your body won't have any reason to adapt. 3. Test yourself every month or so. Looking for visible changes in your body can be discouraging, because they don't show up immediately. This creates a lack of motivation, which starts a vicious cycle that you don't need. At first, focus on what you can do, not what you look like. For a test, try one of the military's physical fitness tests. The best one is the SEAL PST. 4. Work out at least 4 days a week, and if you only work out 4 days a week, make sure you NEED every day of rest you have. Motivation: 1. Go here Gym Jones - Video and watch "The Captain". 2. Read this Bodybuilding.com - PAGE NOT FOUND! 404 Error.. 3. Read this Bodybuilding.com - PAGE NOT FOUND! 404 Error.. 4. Check this ChasingKaz blog from time to time. Workouts: 1. For pullups, check out the Armstrong Pullup Program. I went from a max of 13 pullups to a max of 40 in three months using this as my primary upper-body workout. 2. For a general, all around workout, check out the BUD/S warning order. 3. Check out crossfit.com for workout ideas. There are some really good, fast workouts on that site. Good luck!! EDIT: Those links all work, they just SAY they don't. Last edited by SoonToBe; 05-28-2007 at 03:47 PM. |

Thanks for your info, i personally have been on and off for years and has always been an interest of mine but only now have i put a decent effort into changing it all and putting what i have learnt into practice. I started about 12 months ago at 114kg and way out of shape (ill show photo's) and the way i see it it took me over 5 years to get that bad and i dont want to devote every waking second to body building as i still want to "enjoy" life. I was lucky enough to meet leo (my now personal trainer) in feb of this year and he has given me invaluable tools and info into training, diet, flexibility, mobility, core strength and an open mind to training. Now with his guidance and my efforts i hope to reach the goals i have set for the year and be even more proud than i already am, i relise i have a long way to go but i am pumped and ready to strive day after day. My training ranges from high intensity to high volume to metabolic to cardio and general strength training so there is no shortage of "body shocking" changes to routine. I was measured from the start in a few ways, firstly photo's to include a look on posture, overall look (not good), muscle content and as a future reference, secondly Skin fold test (pinch test) on 7 points or so, Thirdly, tape measured on at least 10 points bi's, neck, shoulders etc. Each of these are refreshed monthly and recorded in detail and of course body weight. At the 6 month mark as in the end of june i will post up some specs on what i started lifing to what i am now and my over all improvments in all aspects of this Will warrior adventure, i would also like to say a massive thanks to John for the inspiration and motovation that helped kick me off and also to Leo thanks brother for pushing me each and every time KEEP IT UP!!!. Cheers Grim |
