i'm beginning to question the need for certain medications. like, i know i need diabetes meds. but then, perhaps a bipolar med i take drives my sugar up? plus, how can one spiritually evolve whilst on medication for "emotional" baggage? what if the baggage no longer exists? i just want to know what these meds do to my overall health. it's not about healing, or so it seams.....

hi gnostic, in general a huge bulk of medicines created aim just to hide symptoms so that we must come back and buy more all the time. Relatively few drugs actually treat the cause of the illness. That said, you can not just generalize and apply to your case. If you are taking specific medicines for your diabetes or other issues, then you can see the name of it on the box, so google that name and read what it actually does. Also educate yourself by challenging the doctor when you go there. When they assign you medicine ask them exactly what it does and what are the side effects. Finally, you can always check alternative medicine because acupuncture for example can treat certain conditions its already known. Then there are other cases where things like QiGong which people practice cure certain conditions they have. But careful don't generalize - learn specifics. |

It depends on the medication. Lithium is pretty serious stuff. The therapeutic dose is only a little below toxicity. But other meds, like carbamazepine, seem to be a lot easier on your system (far fewer side effects, not especially toxic, etc.). How do you know when and if your emotional state is healed enough to go off your meds? Well, talk to your doctor, basically. I had a doctor take me off meds to see if I could manage without them, and I could, and I haven't been on them since (that was back in 1998). When the circumstances of your life change, it's usually time to take a look at these things. As for spiritual growth, healing, etc., honestly, I found that the medication helped to keep me centered enough that I COULD heal, grow, and so forth. It wasn't a problem. Having roller-coaster mood swings and excruciatingly painful mixed episodes, THAT made it difficult to be at peace, to find a centre, to be still, and so forth. |
