I never ever noticed any benefits from cooked garlic at all. But when I eat it raw it's really powerful. But a word of caution: Don't use to much of it, and use it together with other foods. It's so extremely strong that it can create a sharp pain in the stomach area. The first time I used raw garlic (on a slice of bread with peanut butter) I had a weird feeling in my stomach for 2 days. After that I got used to it. I noticed raw garlic really helps against colds. So whenever I have a cold, I eat some raw garlic. |

That always had me speculating as to what it was because, it happened to me the first time that I drank Raw Garlic Water, but the pain only lasted for 30 seconds... Then after it disappeared, I never had the pain again, if I kept drinking the Garlic water. I would only get the pain, if I had not had Garlic water to drink in months. This led me to believe that it was perhaps a bacterial reaction inside my stomach or having to do with the stomach lining, but I'm not sure why it only happens at first and am still curious as to what actually causes it, and why it goes away for weeks at a time.

A lot of people get heartburn from eating garlic, myself included (it's only since I hit middle age, though). If you take the core out of the middle of the clove, it does away with that problem. Which is good, because I love garlic, and I don't like heartburn. |

It is very important to get good local garlic. It will most likely be much better for you than the crap that is found in the super market.. and never ever buy jarlic.(garlic in a jar)My reasoning is simple.. a small local grower probably will not have done any fungicide or pesticide treatment to your garlic. If you want to get wicked geeky about it and like hot garlic I suggest finding someone that grows Georgian Fire or Metechi.. two of my very favorite varieties .. It is actually not too difficult to grow either.. Just a fair deal of work three or four times a year...depending on how much you grow.. I used to grow about 100 pounds of seed which translates into about 3-5000 heads of garlic...so my perspective may be a bit skewed...But I do reccomend growing garlic if you have space to grow it. As for the benefits of garlic? Definitely has helped me ward off colds, coughs etc...as far as the other claims.. I can see how they could be true, and I believe they are, but that does not necessarily make them so. |

I think the reason for the slight stomach pains is that garlic basically 'resets' the body and therefor creating the bacterial reaction (it removes excess bad bacteria).

I have drank as much as two whole cloves in about 32 oz of water, but did notice that it was thinning my blood a little too much as after a while my nose showed symptoms of releasing a tiny bit of blood when I blew my nose. I have since reduced the intake to no more than 1/2 a clove at a time and I blend it in water to lessen its strength plus to allow it to be more easily absorbed. I have also lowered it to 1/4 clove and still been able to notice beneficial results, so long as it is raw and blended well enough to break it up for the body to readily absorb.

| I had Candida for over a long period. When I used raw garlic the symptoms where much more heavy back then. Another weird thing is that whenever I eat raw garlic I dream a lot more. I'm not 100% sure it's caused by the raw garlic, but it happens every time I eat it. |

I use a garlic spread liberally on bread, vegetables, etc (go through 1 to 2 cups every week). I buy it from a Jordanian guy at our local farmer's market (along with fresh hummus), his family makes it weekly and only ingredients are raw garlic and olive oil. It is very pungent, unlike other middle eastern garlic spreads I've had, so I tend to believe that it is pure garlic. Don't know whether it is organic, though - that's a good question. The stall is side by side with farmers selling organic garlic so I think I just assumed it was, will ask. Would this have the same health effects as raw garlic by the clove? I would guess so, as I never get sick and blood pressure on the low side of normal. Easier to eat this way. |

Garlic is known to have antiviral properties, which helps the body fight against allergies. If you have cold and flu, then take small amount of garlic every day until the infection disappears. Garlic works in the body on the platelets, which are the blood clotting cells.

I further want to add that garlic with antioxidant properties promotes the well-being of the heart and immune systems and helps maintain healthy blood circulation. One of garlic's important health benefits includes the ability to enhance the body's immune cell activity.

I eat a clove of garlic once or twice a week. I eat it more often if I am feeling a cold coming on. I peel the clove, cut it into small pieces and swallow the pieces with a glass of water as if I am taking a vitamin.

If I ever have a bad stomach upset, I chop up a clove of garlic and eat it on toast with butter. It usually fixes the problem but my husband moans for the next day or so Years back, when my kids were little, if they had a cold I would take a thin slice of raw garlic and afix it to the sole of a foot with a band aid. It is stuck on just before bed and taken off first thing in the morning. I had read about it somewhere as a natural remedy. I think it helped with their immune system because the cold wouldn't last much longer. Or maybe it was wishful thinking. Although it must have assisted systemically because I could smell garlic on their breath the next day. I took it further when my daughter had a severe plantar wart on the sole of her foot. Every night without fail for a few weeks, we did the garlic slice and band aid thing before bed, over the wart. I just tried it on a hunch before subjecting her to the doctor and having it burnt off. The wart actually started to surface out of her foot and dry up. It was amazing to see it. Once the process started it only took a few days and it was completely out and fell off. She had absolutely no pain. I've since tried it on normal surface warts on my hands though with no luck. xxxmsp |
