Sounds like self sabotage in order to avoid the pressure of re-etablishing your old health routine. I'm sure you already know this, but i would take baby steps while you're trying to get back to your old routine. To go from doing no running (and any other form of exercise altogether i presume) to 25 miles a week is a huge leap, and very daunting. That must be 40 minutes on the treadmill a day? Not a very easy task, so i can understand the lack of motivation. I think for the time being, forget what you used to do. If you keep comparing your current self to your old self, you're likely to fail and giveup at the first sign of failure. Try more achievable targets first like 5 minutes on the treadmill, then increase the time/ditance as you get back into the rhythmn, give our body and mind to adjust to it all again. I know i feel the difference in my fitness if miss a run for even one day. I think once you start building up your fitness again, you may find increased motivation to eat better too. Good luck! |

I agree with curious cat. Holding out a standard to measure up to keeps you from focusing on where you are at now and working from there. You may or may not get back to 25 miles a week, but whatever new standard you rebuild for yourself will be a healthy one. Might I ask, why did you quit jogging in the first place? I'm asking because it might not necessarily be jogging that you want to get into. Last edited by Medusa locked; 12-02-2011 at 02:17 PM. |

Don't be too hard on yourself. This scenario happens to lots of people ... myself included. If you're looking for some motivation and a plan to get going again, I highly suggest the coolrunning site, and the Couch to 5K plan in particular. Chin up and move forward! |

What is the worst thing that can happen if you do not stop eating fast food? Think of that now! What is the best thing that can happen if you quit fast food and restart your running, become fit and look great? Think of that now! These thoughts will provide you with motivation. It is down to you to act on them. Also you could use the NLP Swish pattern for going from procrastination to motivation in 5 minutes. Ant |

Find an activity that is fun like mma or something. Just be active. Find pictures of the body you would want to have.. print them out and put them on ur walls and work towards that goal. | |

In fact running is for me a hobby, something I never can do away with and I am a born runner and I like running since I can relieve myself of something that is smiting me or straining me and it is a regular job and that is why I do not drive and use public buses since I am on a public bus I will get off it and can run again. I have to reach my workstation on time and I have to run when getting off the bus and that made me a runner. If not the little pain in my chest I would have redoubled my running and I am afraid and have to moderate it and I always hate the moderation
