off-gassing is when a new mattress gives off toxic fumes. It is not good to breathe these fumes.

We bought a latex foam mattress from The Original Mattress Factory and put a "memory foam" topper thats a few inches thick on top of it (bought from Bed, Bath and Beyond). We cover the mattress/topper with a nice waterproof cover that we bought with the mattress in case the kids spill anything on it, as well as to stop any "dust mites" or whatever from penetrating into the mattress. This has saved the mattress several times already.

Here is link that talks about new mattresses and off-gassing New Mattresses and Pillows Linked to Many Illness I had bought a select comfort mattress a couple of years ago and it made me sick from the off-gassing. I had to return it and hold on to my old mattress. I am looking to get a new one,but am little cautious about picking another one that will make sick.

| I honestly don't know about mattresses, I have always added a thick down bed topper to any mattress that I use.
