you have to burn more calories than you eat. get a bodybugg, gowear or exerspy to help you. good luck!

Diet and exercise are basically the 2 pillars of being in shape. Tell me, what diets and exercises have you tried, and how long for?

Losing weight wasn't difficult for me when I was younger but not anymore. I have come to a point where every exercise I do is not helping me lose a pound. I have tried eating less carbs and fats and yet it was not enough to make me lose weight. Like they say, you have to burn more calories than you eat but sometimes it's still not enough. Have you tried talking to your doctor about it?

Default Assuming there isnt anything medically wrong with you..

You need to workout hard enough and be consistant along with a good diet, And you need to change the workout & diet every so often to keep your body from adapting.
you can do the same routine up to 6 weeks. however, i got better results changing it every week.. why? because im easily bored. If i keep the same routine longer then 1-2weeks i wont stick to it. YOu need to figure out a way to stick to it.. you need a plan!

It doesn matter when you do your workout as long as you dont skip it!
your workout plan should combine cardio & weight training..

working hard = results.. if you just go through the motions and not push yourself, you will not get results.

actually burning more than what you eat is enough to lose weight(500-1000 calorie deficit). Most people assume they burn enough each day, but really, they dont. That is why I always tell people to check out exerpsy or bodybugg. Tells you how many calories you need to eat, Keeps track of what you eat, amount of calories you burn, amount you need to burn each day to meet your goal, & how well you sleep.

I wish all of you guys the best of luck with your weightloss goals!

Hi the reason your weight loss strategies are not working is because weight gain is a symptom and you are trying to address or cover up the symptom instead of dealing with the root cause of the problem which is making you gain weight.

Only you can discover what the root cause in your situation is, but for the vast majority of people it is stress / emotional problems / unhappiness and boredom. If you deal with the real reason why you are gaining weight then you will lose weight for good.

The other major factor from a motivational point of view is that it helps to get in with the right type of people. You don't mention anything about being involved with others who are trying to do the same under supervision (which is ideal). Like the others said, exercise and what you eat is crucial but quite often when people try to do all this on their own, they easily fall off the wagon so to speak.

When you join a weight loss group under the guidance of professionals, you will become more motivated since you know that you are not alone. Also, you will keep each other more accountable to stick to certain things.

The original question you asked was the exact same one an audience member asked me once after a talk I did. He claimed that he tried 'everything' to lose weight but when I asked him who he tried this with, he didn't really expect my question. He admitted that he didn't involved anybody else as he was trying to lose weight on his own but realized that the motivation factor is low when solo.

This might very well be a missing factor for you. It certainly doesn't hurt to be involved in the right group.

Good luck

Here's what I do, and it works for me every time I need to lose some weight. Might seem simplistic ... but it works.

In my experience, there is no getting around the calories in vs. calories spent equation. Therefore, I always have a ballpark idea of where I am at, as far as calories in, every day.

All I really do is decide what I want to weigh ... multiply that by 11 ... and that's how many calories I eat, roughly.

So, if I want to weigh 180 I eat about 2000 calories per day and try to stay as active as possible via walking, etc.

Simple, but it works well for me.

Forget all this calories theory. Who wants to sit around calculating calories?

All you have to do is follow these three bulletproof steps:

The first step is to understand one simple thing: When you gained the fat, the fat first appeared on your belly, and then it spread elsewhere on your body. When you lose fat, the fat first disappears elsewhere from your body, and eventually it starts disappearing from the belly. As a consequence, trying a new diet or running for a few minutes for 2 days and giving up because your belly didn't shrink is the silliest thing you can do, because maybe you were losing fat elsewhere (and possibly gaining some muscles elsewhere).

The second step is to just start running. Buy an annual access card at your gym. Go on Monday, and run for 5 minutes. Go again on Wednesday, and run for 10 minutes. If your feet start hurting, just let them recover for a day or two. After you have recovered, start running again. I suggest Monday, Wednesday, and Friday as running days. But you can choose any days as long as you have a day in between to recover. Always recover when you start hurting, and continue after having recovered. Repeat this process. In no time, your feet will be strong enough for you to run regularly for 20 minutes at a time, even longer. When your feet have become strong, your mission is to get your heart rate as high as you can for as long as you can.

The third step is to buy yourself a high-speed Vitamix/Blendec blender and make yourself green smoothies for breakfast every morning. There are countless videos about that on YouTube. This should be enough diet change for starters. Don't go too hard on yourself at first.

Start with these steps, and get back to us after 2 months on your progress. The simple fact is this: If you do something about this consistently, you will eventually start seeing results. If you don't, and you give up after a month, you will see no results. It's just that simple. It's up to you now how seriously you want to lose that fat. But always remember that your belly will remain big for a long time no matter what you do because the fat is going off elsewhere first.

Always remember that it's going to be very hard and it could take many months to start seeing any noticeable results. So the question you now have to ask yourself is this: How serious are you?

This, is an excellent point and an excellent example of the nature of human being's impatience. An exercise routine serves best when it is adopted as a way of life, and that usually means experiencing it for far more benefits than its impact on body shape alone.

What are some other things you can gain from getting fit?
How can it better your quality of life in other areas that you may not be aware?
And, more importantly. What type of exercises are the most enjoyable, that you experience the most fun doing or that inspires you the most?

When seeking a certain outcome, patience is necessary but moreover, enjoyment of the process surpasses patience in maintaining consistency.

I agree with every response in this thread. Except for the low-carb suggestions.

I have a nice, easy diet tip! Stop eating bread, pasta, rolls, and pastries, and replace them with fruits and veggies. Of course, you'll naturally underestimate the caloric content of the fruits and veggies so you'll replace a 500 calorie pasta meal with an apple and a banana, for a whopping 150 calories, so you will feel like ♥♥♥♥ until you figure this out. Fortunately I just clued you in, so you won't run into that problem.
