It's just such a pain. Smiley reminded me of the wads of hair in the brush. It once also caught fire while I was working on a stove.

I feel sort of clownish in makeup too. I sometimes wonder whether there is an underlying issue with feeling uncomfortable being dressed up in a traditionally feminine way. May be. I think when it really comes down to it though, I just can't be bothered to put makeup on. RE: Special events - I don't typically wear overly feminine clothing either, and yet, I've thrown on dresses during special events - weddings, my dad's funeral. I sort of feel like it is expected, but don't really want to. *scratches head* May be I'll show up in jeans and a sweat shirt during the next special event. Quote:

Trevor: I'm just curious - Now that you have received some criticism on your blog post, how do you feel about the issue now? I don't venture forth into blogs very often, but when I do, the author seems to using the medium mainly as a way of speaking at people rather than as a medium to facilitate communication between author and audience. I find this disappointing. I would really like to hear how our criticism changes the way you think. |

Me too. Also cut it off the vacuum rollers, physically remove it from drains, and in the past mine was long enough that I had to move it out of the way to use the toilet.

I HAVE HAZEL EYES...like straw colored eyes...and the woman put BRIGHT blue eyeshadow all over me, reddish lipstick, red blush. It was AWFUL!!!!! My mother was very impressed and said it would look good in pictures, though, and threatened my life if I washed it off so I had to wear this hideous clown makeup for one of the most prominent moments of my highschool career. I still can't stand to see the pictures. My dad even drove in from Dallas to escort me and if you had seen the look on his face when he saw me, you would have peed your pants from laughter. Anyway, I soooo know how this feels. LOL.

I am lucky, that much need for make up I don't need. I wear mascara every day, to bring my eyes out and Lip gloss to make my pretty lips even pretty "plus they feel better". I don't feel as though I am hiding. |

Personally I don't care whether a woman wears makeup when she goes out, as long as she has healthy self-esteem. I do have one question, though, for the straight women here: would you consider it impolite if your boyfriend asked you to take off your makeup if you were just hanging out at home together and he wanted to make out with you without your lipstick, etc. smudging off on him? And lol about the long hair fetish stuff. The reason I wear my hair short is because when it gets longer than like 3", I can't sleep at night because my head and neck feel too hot (even in the New England winter!) and it starts tickling my ears and stuff. How do you people with long hair, especially those of you living in much hotter climes than I do, put up with the heat!? Also, I think women with short hair are underrated. Pageboy and pixie cut hairstyles are usually made of win, in my opinion. Last edited by OptimistPrime; 10-26-2011 at 09:41 PM. |

But now that what it means to be gay and what it means to be a woman are being redefined to be more free and inclusive, the definition of masculinity collapses. I do think it's one of the great next tasks of feminists, in particular male feminists, to reclaim masculinity and redefine it in a positive, inclusive manner. One that will allow you to wear skirts and makeup if you feel like it, because why the ♥♥♥♥ not? I wanted to comment on the post that referred to women at the gym with tons of makeup on - I wear makeup during the day and go to the gym after work. I'm not going to take all of my makeup off specifically to go to the gym; that would be as silly as putting makeup on specifically to go to the gym. I am a chick that adores makeup, shoes, clothes, etc... I love being feminine. I love expressing and amplifying my femininity. It's good for my soul. Besides, whatever people's motivations for certain behaviors or habits (known or unknown motivations) should not have to be subjected to "right" or "wrong" by other people. That is like telling someone their feelings are right or wrong. Or opinions. We're all entitled to them, but there is no finite "right" or "wrong" answer to anything, really. You may disagree with me here, but hey, that is why opinions are so great! Last edited by alexthegirl; 10-26-2011 at 09:57 PM. |

As rr suggested, you rather have to look at the whole package. Women understand that more often than men, I think, but some men get it, too.

| While you're sleeping? That's fine, but I still don't get the appeal. And just to clarify, I'm not suggesting that people should or should not feel a certain way, or that I'm superior or anything for feeling the way I do. I just genuinely find it fascinating how much one's tastes and feelings can diverge from (what can appear to be) the norm, at least when it comes to some things. Are you suggesting that I don't take into account how short hair fits in with the rest of a woman's features/traits when gauging how attractive I do or do not find it to be? Or was that just a general statement? |

| Um... you can, I don't see why not. Put it in a braid, or two if you want to keep it off your neck. Two ponytails if you don't want braid waves or if your hair is too short to braid. Or put it in a topknot, or a high ponytail. I just put mine up over the pillow.

(Edit: Come to think of it, the last time I was rejected for a date, it was a girl who had short hair.) Last edited by Beingist; 10-26-2011 at 10:34 PM.

I brush my teeth, and I pluck my chin hairs...I'm approachable. There have been many times in my life where I have actively worked to not be approached, so I don't feel the sense of responsability you mention. Most people I'd be happy for them to stay away. The ones I wouldn't mind approaching me wouldn't care if I wore make up or not. Last edited by elucidate; 10-26-2011 at 11:25 PM.
