Default Um, is this normal?

So I've been sedentary for a while and I just started jumprope. Guys, my lungs are screwed. I get puffed after only a few minutes of jumprope. Is this normal?

Is it a lung issue? Will my lungs eventually be able to handle it if I stick at it?

They say to see a doctor when you start an exercise program...

There's no way to say if it's normal or not just by reading a forum post.

It could be normal for someone out of shape, of coarse.
Or it could be something doctors would be able to tell.
I have no way of knowing, you know?

Personally I wouldn't worry about it unless it doesn't improve over time. Burning lungs are common with physical exertion.

It just means that you lack cardiovascular fitness. Which is why you need to exercise, in the first place. You'll get better.

Jumping rope is a lot harder than it looks... I take at least 2 spinning classes per week... my heart is in good shape, and I still get out of breath quickly when jumping rope.

Don't give up!

Sounds normal!
Things you can do easily as a kid are a lot harder when you are a fully-grown up adult!
Some friends and I were monitoring the bouncy castle at a convention a few years ago. Then at 8pm all the kids were turfed off as it being time for their parents to take over, and we all had a go. We were all dead within 5 minutes. It is SO hard! How kids keep it up for hours on end is beyond belief!

Sounds perfectly normal for someone who is not in shape. No need to see an MD. Just keep at it and the burning will go away.
