Hi, I want to kick the nicotine habit without taking pills or the patch. For those who have quit an addiction, is it better to sit with the withdrawal symptoms till they pass and allow the feelings to come and quietly let them flow through you till they disappear or is it better to immediately focus intensely on an activity you enjoy to avoid feeling the withdrawal symptoms? What I do is try and find something new to do with my time which the habit used to fill. Now that you're trying to quit, there's a "hole" that needs to be filled, if you don't fill it with something, your desire for the nicotine will just get stronger and stronger because it's all you can think about. Nicotine's a tough one, but focusing your energy on an activity you enjoy so you can get your mind off it will definitely help. Getting bored will only make you relapse. |
