Is this weird, funny or a good idea? This guy drinks 66 ounces of his wife's breast milk every day. She's got bottles of the stuff in the freezer: New father Curtis living on a diet of just his wife's breast milk | Mail Online |

Far be it for me to tell someone else what they should and shouldn't consume, but COME ON! Breast milk is designed for human babies, not human Adult babies. If he feels satisfied then what can you do, but I find it pretty gross and kinda creepy. As long as their baby isn't being deprived of what it needs I have no real opinion other than "Ew". |

Plus this milk isn't going to be loaded with antibiotics and growth hormones. Ugh.

I don't know what the nutritional value for an adult male would be since breast milk is specifically made up of enzymes that babies can easily digest.

I just can't get the scene of that full grown man on Little Britain, where they are all sitting around having a normal afternoon tea with friends, and he all of a sudden asks for "bittie" to his mother and she flops out her boob and starts feeding him. It's just wrong on so many levels.

Drinking human milk has always made more sense to me than drinking the milk of another animal. We're only ok with cow milk because we are ingrained since a young age to view it as normal. But we never stop to think how similar it would be if we started drinking bat milk, pig milk, or the milk of any other animal... Dog milk anyone? |

I suppose if he feels satisfied with it then hey. I'd just feel weird lactating into a bottle to give to my husband, if I were the woman.

I certainly don't hope that my GF doesn't start making cookies adding her own milk to the ingredients.

| Well, animals in factory farming are loaded up with almost as much antibiotics as they can take, plus growth hormones and other hormones to maximise production which I'm sure the woman doesn't take. So even if her milk isn't 100% organic, I think it would be better in this respect by a scale of magnitude.

I'm also aware that a woman who eats crap all her life and gives her breast milk to her baby and her husband is also doing the same thing essentially. Whether it's in a smaller amount is not really relevant.

If his grand daughters breast milk is truly helping fight his cancer, then it's really not that much different to donating a kidney to a loved one. If it works that is. If it's not just a load of crap from the Tabloids then I have no problem with this once I'm past the initial cringe factor. When you have nothing to lose, everything is up to try.

Actually, this happened to a guy I knew from school days. He was seeing this woman who was a new mother, though not to him, and one day they were doing the wild thing and she started lactating involuntarily in his mouth...he puked instantly! He said it was really really sour and unpleasant.

I think it's kind of like anchovies or truffle; complex layers of flavour that may not be everyone's cup of tea. But addictive to those who enjoy it.

| I can see him releasing out a new book very soon 'The Curtis Diet' - how to lose weight, save money, and grab as much attention as possible ALL at the same time! Try the new sexy miracle diet today! That's right I sit there in my incredibly soft armchair in front of a roaring fire on a cold Winter's night, with a fine glass of freshly procured breast milk twindling in my fingers, thinking 'This texture is absolutely magnificent, and the well-bodied aftertaste is simply stunning on my palette!'. |

Admittedly, if a mother has a crappy diet, it probably would be better to use donor milk from a woman who has a good diet. But human breast milk is indeed the only milk made for humans. I saw an article recently about some company in Europe that was going to be offering ice cream made from human breast milk. Its only our cultural upbringing that make us go "ew."

Where in my posts did I say human milk is not meant for babies? I've laid it out twice now saying that it is made specifically for babies. No one is saying it isn't the best thing...for babies, it is. It may be my cultural upbringing speaking here, but I don't think many women would be volunteering to spend hours squeezing their breasts for milk...like cows, so people can enjoy ice-cream. If someone wants to do that in their own home, then sweet, Knowing humans though I'm sure there will be some women willing to cash in on their breast milk. As far as I know, human breast milk is a complete food. It contains the best balance of protein, fat, and carbs as well as the enzymes and nutrients (nutrients are somewhat dependent on what the woman eats, but that is true of any livestock). There is nothing particular to the young child (and remember, if it weren't for our regressive culture, it would be normal for a human child to consume breast milk until their milk teeth fall out like other mammals, which for humans is around age 6) nutritionally compared to the adult human, except that under age 1, they need slightly more fat to build brain tissue (which is composed of mainly fat). There are adults that consume nothing but breast milk and they do thrive. Usually these are people who have severe disabilities such that they are unable to tolerate any food except breastmilk. I'm curious why you think human breastmilk isn't sufficient for an adult human?

I don't know whether it is or isn't sufficient, as I said in earlier posts. I actually asked if it was enough for a full grown man, nutritionally, since it is specifically designed to nurture babies with certain enzymes that prepare their digestive tract for more solid foods, among other things. I don't see too many full grown cows drinking milk from other cows, or bulls for that matter. I don't think any other animals continues to drink breast milk from it's mother past a certain point, so I'm sure I can be forgiven for wondering why any man would want to? That was interesting information though. I had no idea there were actually people who thrived just on breast milk, so that's new. I also just read the part you edited and added saying that they are mostly people living with disabilities because they can not digest any other kind of milk...and that makes sense. Many mothers I've known don't want their child still grabbing for their boob past about the 3 year, as they have had enough of not having ownership over their own bodies anymore, so any woman who can stand it for 6 whole years must be a saint. I don't know, that cow might be full of hormones but the cow isn't exposed to as much medication, plastics, food preservatives, etc. I think it'd be a pretty close match. Also, if the baby doesn't want the milk, there is either something wrong with the baby or something wrong with the milk. |

Anyway, I've lost the point of this particular discussion we're having. I think it was to simply say that if a woman is full of anti-biotics herself, say if she eats chicken that is fed anti-biotics fairly regularly, and crap from food then it's sort of the same thing as consuming regular milk from cows fed all that crap, for the baby. It's completely irrelevant to the OP's topic though. Last edited by elucidate; 10-01-2011 at 04:51 PM.
