Default Help. What Foods That Make You Pale and Make Skin Darker

A woman was saying that vegetarians that she meets are usually pale. Now Michael Jackson was a vegetarian and very pale for being black. I must confess that I am ignorant of this science. Please educate me. What foods should I eat to make my skin darker?

What foods should I avoid eating since they will make me pale? If I eat a lot of greens will it make me sickly looking and give me green looking skin. Where can I go to find a list of the foods that change skin color?

Note that I already know about eating silver. Silver is not a food, but a mineral. If you eat excessive amounts of it, then it can make your skin grayish blue looking.

If foods cannot make people less pale looking, is there any way to make skin darker and less pale without eating or putting dyes on my skin? Also I heard that you can get vitamin D for free-- at no cost at all. Is that a scam? Doesn't all foods and supplements cost money?

Gingko, with all due respect, it's worthy to try to understand what other person is actually saying before making a separate thread making fun of what you think they're saying

P.S. To everyone who doesn't know, I'm the woman who claimed that most vegetarians/vegans I've met are usually pale, which they are. You can read more about that in sickly vegans thread.

P.P.S. I don't really think it makes sense to try to deny experience of a person, since when someone says that most vegetarians/vegans they meet are usually pale, you can't really argue with that, because it's their experience. I wasn't saying that all vegetarians and vegans are pale, or that vegetarians/vegans can't be strong and healthy or that vegetarian/vegan diet is unhealthy as such. I simply stated that most vegetarians and vegans I've met (not all!), don't seem to be strong and healthy, which is true in my experience. How is that wrong, again?

The sun makes your skin darker through vitamin D. The best way to look healthier is to spend between 20-30 minutes in the sun every day, although once you build up a tolerance, you can stay out longer without burning. No sunscreen, but if you want you can wear a ballcap. The skin around your eyes is very sensitive. I've been sunbathing at least 3-4 times a week for a couple of years now and my skin is a significantly darker color than it was 2 years ago. Just don't overdo it or you could cause skin damage and melanoma.

WTF? It's not about the food..it's mostly about genetics on skin color case.. I'm pale, not a vegan, if I wanted to get darker skin I'd go tan...

Maybe there are foods that can influence it but I doubt it, enlighten me if someone can too..

But you really need to try to understand if there is any science behind it or if it is coincidental. England is far from the equator and it rains all the time there, right? So wouldn't people in England be more pale than people living in Kenya.

These things that people notice are not based on any numbers or statistics. When people look for certain coincidences, it increases the chances of finding them. It is psychological. Like some people that are cashiers will notice that their birthday comes up all the time on receipts. But if another number comes up much more, they would not notice it. There is science and superstition!

Many health experts say that cigarette smoking is the worst thing for health. But someone can smoke and be vegetarian or eat meat and not smoke. Webmd says that cutting salt intake is as good as quitting smoking for health. Now a meat eater can eat very little salt and a vegan can eat a lot of salt.

The government did a study that concluded that being overweight is mostly genetics. They found that more children of overweight parents are overweight than those with parents that were not overweight.

But maybe it is the children copying the lifestyle of their parents. For example most children of Christians are Christians and most children of Muslims are Muslims. So that means religion is genetic!? Also you will find that more children of the KKK hate blacks than children of hippie parents that are into peace and love and all that hippy stuff. Does that mean that it is genetics?

What does the following mean as far as science goes? Nothing. Just huge coincidences.

This list has been seen many times all over the internet
Every Feb 12th, we celebrate President Lincoln’s birthday

Here are some of the eerie similarities between the lives of Lincoln and JFK. Some may argue this is simply a cooincidence while other thing this may be some secret

Lincoln was succeeded, after assassination, by vice-president Johnson
- Kennedy was succeeded, after assassination, by vice-president Johnson

- Andrew Johnson was born in 1808
- Lyndon Johnson was born in 1908

- Andrew Johnson's name has 13 letters
- Lyndon Johnson's name has 13 letters

-Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846
- Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946

- Lincoln was elected president in 1860
- Kennedy was elected president in 1960

Life
•Both presidents had seven letters in their last name.
•Both were over six feet tall.
•Both men studied law.
•Both seemed to have lazy eye muscles, which would sometimes cause one to deviate.
•Both suffered from genetic diseases. It is suspected that Lincoln had Marfan’s disease, and Kennedy suffered from Addison’s disease. Marfan’s is a connective tissue disease which results in over elastic tissue. Addison’s results in low levels of cortisol production, which leads to fatigue and exhaustion.
•Both served in the military. Lincoln was a scout captain in the Black Hawk War, and Kennedy served as a navy lieutenant in World War II.
•Both were boat captains. Lincoln was a skipper for the Talisman, a Mississippi River boat, and Kennedy was skipper of the PT-109.
•Both had no fear of their mortality and disdained bodyguards.
•Both often stated how easy it would be to shoot the president. Lincoln supposedly said, “If somebody wants to take my life, there is nothing I can do to prevent it.” Kennedy supposedly said, “If somebody wants to shoot me from a window with a rifle, nobody can stop it.” Note that both these quotes are each 16 words long.

•Both presidents were shot in the head, on a Friday.
•Both were seated beside their wives when shot. Neither Mrs. Lincoln nor Mrs. Kennedy was injured. Both wives held the bullet-torn heads of their husbands.
•In each case, the man was injured but not fatally. Major Henry Rathbone was slashed by a knife, and Governor John Connolly was shot.
•Lincoln sat in Box 7 at Ford’s Theatre. Kennedy rode in car 7 in the Dallas motorcade.
•Lincoln was shot at Ford’s Theatre. Kennedy was shot in a Ford product, a Lincoln limousine.
•Mrs. Kennedy insisted that her husband’s funeral mirror Lincoln’s as closely as possible.

The Assassins
•Both assassins used three names: John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald. (It should be noted that Lee Harvey Oswald was known as just Lee Oswald prior to the assassination.)
•There are 15 letters in each assassin’s name.
•Both assassins struck when in their mid-20s. Booth was born in 1838, and Oswald was born in 1939.
•Each assassin lacked a strong father figure in his life. Booth’s father died when he was 13 years old, and Oswald’s father died before he was born.
•Each assassin had two brothers whose careers he coveted. Booth’s two brothers were more successful actors and Oswald envied his brothers’ military lives.
•Both assassins were privates in the military. Booth was a private in the Virginia Militia, and Oswald was a private in the Marine Corps. Both assassins were born in the south.
•Both assassins were known sympathizers to enemies of the United States. Booth supported the Confederacy and Oswald was a Marxist.
•Both assassins often used aliases. Booth frequently used “J. Wilkes” and Oswald used the name “Alek J. Hidell.”
•Booth shot Lincoln at a theatre and was cornered in a warehouse. Oswald shot Kennedy from a warehouse and was cornered in a theatre.
•Each assassin was detained by an officer named Baker. Lt. Luther B. Baker was leader of the cavalry patrol that trapped Booth at Garrett’s Barn. Officer Marion L. Baker, a Dallas motorcycle patrolman, briefly detained Oswald on the second floor of the School Book Depository until he learned that he worked there.
•Both assassins were killed with a single shot from a Colt revolver.
•Both assassins were shot in a blaze of light, Booth after the barn was set afire, and Oswald in the form of television cameras.

I did not address the above at all. I can come up with psychological theories about the above. There is no connection between being pale and the foods that you eat. My whole entire talk was about being pale and diet, right? Pale is different than strong and healthy.

Maybe if someone is a vegan for moral reasons, they are not eating healthy foods since that is not their goal. Do you think a vegan diet of potato chips, jelly beans and gummy worms are healthy? Isn't most candy vegan? But it is very unhealthy. Potato chips are vegan but not healthy. Potatoes are healthy but not the deep frying and salt.

Now is there a connection between being healthy and strong and the foods that you eat? Yes! How can anyone become strong eating potato chips, jelly beans and gummy worms? That is a vegan diet.

Maybe many vegans for moral reasons have a lot of self hate! Many (not all) love animals but hate people. Maybe they were abused by people. Now they do not exercise or take care of themselves because they are very unhappy. Bill Clinton does not care about animals. He is a vegan for health reasons. He does not want to die and had serious artery problems before becoming vegan.

One time I was at a volleyball class/practice. The assistant had seen me dozens of times (this is science). But this day she said that I was pale and needed to get more sunlight (she was stupid). So what happened right before that that never happened before?

I jumped when another guy jumped and his foot landed on top of mine. I fell over but my foot could not turn since his foot was on it. So I tore many ligaments in my ankle and went to the hospital. Now a couple of hours after it, I was in a lot of pain. But right after it happened I was not in any pain. Why? Please note that everyone in the class, including the assistant, knew that I was injured. I was not in any pain since the shock only allowed a little bit of blood to my head. That is how nature protects you. So I was pale because there was very little blood in my head but the assistant must have thought that it was pure coincidence.

Also influenza is not caused by the influence of the stars (origin of name). Also when people say "God bless you" when you sneeze, there are no evil spirits trying to posess you. It is just your nose ejecting dust.

My mother tells me drinking chai (Indian tea) makes the skin darker. Lol, Desi people, especially older ladies, always advice expecting mothers not to have chai so that their babies are born light-skinned. In some cases, I have heard that ladies even force their daughters-in-law to have lots of milk. That too apparantly makes the baby light-skinned.

I have no idea if that is scientifically accurate or just a law of manifestation or something

People in Northern India have lighter skin than people in Southern India. This is due to southern India being closer to the equator.

People in Iceland have much paler skin than people in Africa due to less sunlight.

I think the idea was that she meant that the veg*ns she knows tend to not have much color in their cheeks. I.e. the difference between being sickly pale and lack-of-sun-exposure pale (the former is one step further than the latter.)
Of course, it is still just experience. I know a lot of people who eat a lot of McDonalds and are that sickly kind of pale. Being vegan must be just as bad as eating lots of McDonalds!

This whole conversation is a bit ridiculous IMO. But here I am!

Gingko made me feel like a star! You know all the attention! I've never had someone making a separate thread to discuss one sentence I've said while also discussing it in the original thread.. Watch out, Paris Hilton, the Star is born!

You are right Ginkgo, geography does play a role in determining the complexion. However, there are other ways too through which we the complexion changes.

I'm pale too, and it has nothing to do with my vegetarianism! I was equally pale when I still ate meat. Yup, it's all to do with that thingy called "melanin" which I have something of a deficiency of (except in random splodges all over my face... and I really wish those splodges had an equal deficiency as the rest of my skin).

I have heard that eating a lot of carrots can make your skin orangish!! But apart from that I don't think it's got much to do with meat vs no meat! Eating no meat hasn't had any impact on my ability to tan or not... it's just my genetics.

Now if we're talking about colour as in "pinkness" I still go very pink in the face when I blush or when I exercise!!

All this being said though, I'm not sure about the purpose of this thread. Sure not all vegans/vegetarians are unhealthily pale, but that doesn't mean that someone hasn't had the experience of seeing a lot who are, and their experience doesn't need to be rubbished. It's usually helpful enough just to show examples of vegans/vegetarians who are NOT pale and sickly looking to illustrate that it is possible to be perfectly healthy on a meatless diet!
