I have heard from many people that were overweight or obese at some point of their lives that all of a sudden they had an awakening, life changing, out of nowhere moment that just told them it was time!!! Time to lose the weight to get healthy etc. I have been exercising and eating better but I just don't feel that spark. That thing that can keep me up and going every morning. .. I want that life changing experience .. Have I already experienced it without knowing? Or is it just me ?maybe I expect too much!! I want to have a weird, unhuman, out of this world feeling .. But I feel I just need motivation!! Alot of it. I know I should push myself but I feel lonely . I want to share this journey along someone. It's hard .. I just want to know what woke you up? At what moment did you change your life and why? I really care for details. What was your daily motivation? Thank you for any advice or stories you may share.

This is one of the most inspiring articles I read about this stuff. It's called Phoenix theory and is written by a personal trainer telling his story of how he went from fat to fit. He was real pissed off, he really struggled but he succeeded. Here is a quote: Feel the Burn Here's how it happened for me. Sophomore year of college, mandatory PE class, body fat testing day. I stood there with my shirt off while a cute little co-ed attempted to pinch the big rolls of fat around my waist. Man, I didn't even take my shirt off at the pool anymore, and now my blubbery gut was being pinched and measured by a beautiful girl? My face burned with embarrassment. I really suggest reading this whole article, cuz it shows real interesting perspective and insight. T NATION | Phoenix Theory Enjoy |

Motivation especially when it comes to fitness and health will be different for different people. You will have to find your own. Like in the video I did about what I call sidedoor motivation, I do weights and swimming because they help me perform well in martial arts and skiing. Yes, there are health reasons too but the sports performance aspect for me definitely motivated me much more. For other people, it might be their families that motivate them. I know of a couple who were smokers and they both quit cold turkey when they first heard their new baby daughter coughing from their second hand smoke. So that was a huge motivation that worked for them. You just have to figure out what it is that will really motivate you for better health and then get ways to remind yourself all the time. |

My 62-year old dad had a heart attack a couple months ago and had a few stents put in. He still drinks 2 cups of coffee and 2-3 cans of coca-cola daily, eats canned soup daily (full of MSG and about 200% RDA sodium), eats junk food, puts table salt on his food, and doesn't exercise. A significant (probably majority) portion of his diet is grains in the form of bleached, refined wheat products. Actually if I think back, the main thing that motivated me to eat healthier and exercise (which led to a complete overhaul of my diet and lifestyle) was acne. I did not want to look like I was a 16-year old fast food employee for the rest of my life. I think the noblest of people don't even have a wake up call; they just decide they want to be healthy. Some people have to get cancer, and some die from a miserable sickness before they decide to be healthy. |

One of the great things about being able to get the right motivation is that if you make that commitment, you are there for a long time. I've made my commitments to health and fitness decades ago and it's been absorbed into my system. This lifestyle is now normal for me. Heck, I even work out when I'm on vacation. If you find the right motivation and reasons to justify a certain lifestyle as explained in the video I mentioned previously, you will be able to maintain that lifestyle for many years to come. |
