Default Bursts of too much energy at work?

I'm at work, and I just had this really intense 10 minutes of feeling the deep urge to start jumping around or going for a long run, as I felt a huge burst of energy come up, but it's frustrating because I work a desk job that means I don't really exercies much.

My body is telling me it wants to move around but in a professional environment I can't really start breakdancing, so I don't know what to do about it!

Does anyone have suggestion as to how to cope with too much energy at such times? I've spent the last 20 years being lacking in energy, and have been working towards increased energy and overcoming depression, so big bursts of energy like this come as a bit of a freaky experience for me.

I'd be grateful.

Go to a stair-well and sprint couple of floors or do 15 burpess. Go outside and sprint couple of times around the building. Quite your desk-job (per Steve Pavlina )

I could do the stairwell thing actually. The other suggestion isn't something I could really get away with...and I'm working on the third suggestion.

Thanks.

You might not like this suggestion but I'm sure that it's going to cross many people's minds -- start exercising regularly!

I walk regularly, I rode my bike every day before it got stolen and I dance every so often. But yeah, I realize I will need to exercise more regularly, though I don't actually enjoy things like gym work.

I will be starting up Krav Maga soon so hopefully that will help with burning off excess energy. It's been about a year since I was training more regularly in MA. I also want to get back into yoga, as I let that slide for a long time, but I always feel better after I've done it.

This thread was really about how to deal with excess energy coming up while I'm at work and have limited ways to burn it, and I think agsags offered a stellar suggestion with running up the stairs.

I think it's also partly due to Spring being here, and me just being naturally more joyful and full of pep at this time of year.

It may be a focus issue while at work. Also, if you did exercise more regularly, it may change the need to release energy at work.

The answer is really just to find a way to use that energy quickly and subtly. Depending on the level of privacy you can get, this could include sprinting, singing, handstands (perhaps with weights), jumping jacks, or breathing exercises.

Also, congratulations! This is a much more fun problem than having too little energy

I get that. The work I do is very mundane and does not use up that much energy, so whilst it may be an issue of focus, it's also one of properly expending these bursts of energy, as they come up, so I don't feel backed up and frustrated by being so restricted.

Thanks for your input.

Thankyou SatvikBeri. It is a much better challenge to have, you're right.

Those are great suggestions. I probably could have come up with them yesterday when I was experiencing this. I was so focused on the experience at the time of this strange thing that is a random burst of hyper energy, that I couldn't think straight as to how to use it efficiently while I was doing my duties, so I kinda panicked, but yes, I can see there are plenty of options now.
