Today, I broke my daily healthy diet commitments because I went to a friend's place. She prepared chicken curry, bread, mayonnaise prawns, and some deep fried stuff. I couldn't resist the food. She also offered me two candies. then for dinner, mom cooked delicious fish noodles. I couldn't resist. so i Broke my daily commitment of "Only one non-vegetarian meal a day, and no deep frieds, and no curries". Then after dinner, I found myself sleepy and I dozed off in bed. After that I found myself yawning during my dance lesson. Are unhealthy foods that potent??? or is it just my imagination??? Or is it something else? |

They can be that potent. For the past few months I have only allowed myself 'grains/cereals' on one day a week. The day after I am often zombified! Also if I eat a lot of sugar eg yesterday I bought a jar of what they call 'black honey' here in Egypt but has never seen a bee and is in fact molasses. Anyway, it kept calling me from the fridge and I kept spooning it and I was zombified today. So I flushed the rest of the jar down the sink. |

When I go out and if I happen to eat something that is a bit higher in fat content than I'm normally use to, I will feel it. So don't be surprised if you suddenly feel different from the odd indulgence.

I'm trying to switch to a low fat 100% raw diet, and it sometimes is very hard to stick to. I'm just looking at possible alternatives if I eventually conclude it isn't sustainable. Thanks a lot!

For myself, I pretty well nibble on everything when I'm out socializing. But it's when I'm eating at home that really makes a difference. In short, I eat lots of fish (probably four days out of the week), chicken and turkey. I don't eat red meat at all at home but will occasionally when out. I also eat lots of fresh vegetables, even started my own veggie garden this summer. Also consume 100% whole wheat breads, pasta and rice. Lots of fruits and I do drink skim milk and juices. So far, nothing here really seems extreme but where I might be considered extreme is that I never use table salt, sugar, butter, margarine or any type of cooking oils. I also do not fry or bake as I prefer to steam. Been doing this for decades and the results speak for themselves.

anything high in fat has a tendency to make you feel tired. So if your eating deep fried food there is a good chance it will drain your energy and you feel a bit tired. Your body has to work really hard to digest anything that is fried.

All my life I have been 'fed' the 'grains are healthy' line and tried to incorporate them into diets and every diet has been a continual daily struggle with hunger and cravings until this, for me, 'magic key'. I get carbs via veggies, potatoes, dairy and so on. Apart from the weight loss, I have had other major health improvements which I'm not willing to spell out! Yes, as far as I'm concerned, weight loss is purely calories in versus calories out BUT for me, the big key enabling me to STICK to a calorie controlled diet easily was this. While trying to include grains and cereals in my daily diet it meant (a) less calories available for more nutrient-rich foods and (b) their impact on me meant I would be hungry and craving all the time making sticking to a diet virtually impossible.

The more I think about this diet, the more sense it makes. I always feel great after eating the foods you listed. Do you eat processed foods like plain yogurt, or store bought whole wheat breads? Or do you eat all whole foods? Also, you mentioned no table salt. Do you add sea salt in anything, or eat foods with salt added (i.e. breads, fish, etc?) Or do you just avoid salt altogether? I always feel worse when I consume foods with salt in it, so I was just wondering what your thoughts were. Also, I assume you don't eat too many nuts or seeds? Sorry for all the questions, and thanks for your help! Last edited by jn15; 09-06-2011 at 08:46 PM. |
