I've actually started doing this. I slipped up today, because I'm saving my energy to go out dancing tonight, but I want to run at least one mile every day.

I want to build up to be able to run an hour every morning. I think that would be pretty rockin'. It'll be like being in the military or something crazy like that.

Right now I do 4 miles one day, 1-2 the other day. Except today, of course. Hah.

A lot of people say you can get injured doing this. I say if you pay attention to what you're doing and you don't push yourself to do anything crazy you should be fine. The human body was built to move.

  • I only told a few people that I was doing it, and I only told them after I had a few months completed.
  • The hardest experience I remember was in the first week of January. After being completely wiped out from an intense day of snowboarding, I told my friends I was going to go for a run on a treadmill. They looked at me like I was ridiculous and told me I was crazy.
  • I could tell my legs were taking a beating from all the running sometime around May. To let them recover, I ran on a treadmill only for a few weeks.
  • I experimented with stretching vs. not stretching. I despise stretching, and I was happy to find that, for me, it really had no impact on how my legs felt.
As for my future plans: I'm going to rest a few weeks, see a doctor, and start a new fitness regimen which includes running and weightlifting. I plan on running a marathon sometime in 2008 or 2009. Happy New Years everyone!

Well done Luigi. That was an excellent effort.

I'm interested in committing to getting exercise on a daily basis in ANY form this year in order to fight against depression. I know that regular exercise helps me a lot more than sporadic exercise, so I don't want to even allow for the possibility of breaking the habit. If I'm having a bad day or week emotionally, I'm promising myself to still at least do something (anything!) every day, even if it's something relatively easy like a walk.

Of course, I have a much more specific schedule that I plan to stick to, but I'm hoping that my "just show up" approach will help me stick to getting regular exercise when I need it the most - ie, when I'm the most emotionally vulnerable.

Does anyone else have an exercise goal for 2008?

PS - Those interested in running daily might find this website helpful: MapMyRun.com - Map your Running Routes. Find Runs. Calculate Calories, Pedometer, Distance, and More. I've found a few great routes this way!
