Just curious as to when you do your exercise - morning or night and why. I do it in the morning - gives me energy throughout the day. Other people I know do it at night and say it helps them sleep better. |

Studies have shown that people's body temperature has a twelve hours cycle... it raises for twelve hours and decrease for the next twelve hours... and, we are more energetic when our body temperature is on the "high" cycle... Now, for some people that "high" cycle is at night... and for others it is in daytime... so, we should schedule important activities (creative work, exercises etc...) during the high peak... I'm a night owl... so, that's when I create and exercise... . |

If you are living in a city, it is best to exercise or jog in the morning as the pollution levels are low. If you are exercising in a gym, I guess time shouldn't be a constraint. As for me, I prefer the mornings as it make you feel fresh... |

There are two scenarios, depending on what you wanna achieve. Scenario one, if I wanna get my metabolism going and up and ready for the day, I do mornings non-strenuous workout, a quick 15-minute jog and stretches or some 10 to 15 laps is good enough to perk me up. Scenario two, is at the end of the day where I will push myself with at least a half-hour to one hour cardio workout. Preferably outdoors with half-hour or if the weather is great maybe up to one hour jog/run. Alternate it with same duration swim followed by another half-hour toning in the gym. If the weather is bad as in rain, the runs will be on a treadmill. I find that doing more strenuous workouts in the evenings will allow me to sleep better at night, and when I wake the next morning, I feel great! Not sure if this is the same for others? These are done about 3 days a week; and are sufficient for me. KayceezThe World Thru Kayceez Eyes My Success Plan for Personal Development Last edited by Kayceezharold; 04-28-2007 at 09:59 AM. |

Imagine a culture like ours, except it exsists a long time ago. A culture consisting of 'morning people' and 'evening or night people'. One morning, a group of hungry rampant T rexs' burst into the village. The morning people are stoked, they're ready to roll, and are outa there. The evening or night people are like, 'excuse me, but we are evening...'. They are breakfast, and gone. One night more hungry rampant dino's return. Only the 'morning people' are left. They are like, 'excuse me but we are morning...'. They are supper and gone. So when's the best time to work out?

In a couple bodybuilding books by guys (Clarence Bass and former Mr. Universe Bill Pearl) that had been working out for over 50 years each, both said that injury is least apt to occur if working out in afternoon to evening as the body is more warmed up. Still, both largely work out around 4-6 am for convenience. If/when I go to the gym it's usually around 10/11 pm, though I ride my bike, do chin ups, and jump rope most any time throughout the day.

I was at the gym at 7am this morning. It's 11.30AM and can't work. I'm SO tired. How do you get energized after a workout? I've been following my trainer's routine for weeks now, and I don't get so tired while I'm at the gym or on the way home, but about 1h after ending the workout (which is when I start working after shower, coming back home and having something to eat) I feel like if I had never slept in my whole live. Am I the only one? |

Xieta, I can't recall feeling the way you describe unless I was really tired before my workout. How do you feel before the gym? What sort of foods are you eating after your workout? The issue might be your diet.

Thanks for the input. I don't feel half as tired when I go in the evenings. Actually, I feel really great, even if I was tired beforehand. But if I go in the morning, it makes me sleepy. When I come back I have yogurt&cereal (all-bran) and sometimes fruit. If I go in the evening, I have dinner. |

I need to excercise at night. Not only does it fit into my schedule, but it's what I enjoy doing. I just seem to natually be more productive late at night; I start to do my homework, lift weights, clean, and sometimes even go for a jog early in the morning (1:00 - 2:00 AM). It's just what I'm comfortable with. |

I exercise both mornings and evenings. During the week, mornings I do step aerobics or lift weights or a combination of both. Evenings I walk four miles. On the weekends, I ride my bike at least 15 miles each morning. I think the fresh air is as important as the exercise, thus I try to get into the great outdoors each day for a while.

Don't own a car and therefore walk everywhere - that's at least 50 minutes every day, usually more. That's spread out through the whole day with two big chunks in the morning and afternoon (to and from home). I also lift weights 3 or 4 times a week, usually before lunch. The days that I lift I usually feel pretty tired for a few hours. Even though I do push myself pretty hard, I think it is avoidable to be so tired. I may experiment with lifting at a different time. |
