Talking Dymaxion Sleep Schedule Tips and Tricks-Adapting Successfully

Hello. I am new to this forum, but have been reading about Steve Pavlina's work for awhile now. His experiment with the Uberman Sleep Schedule is what really caught my attention so I decided to start on one myself. However, I chose the Dymaxion instead of Uberman because I don't see myself sleeping every 4 hours, thats a little too short. Six hours is much more preferable for me, so I will attempt the Dymaxion.

Some of you may not know what the Dymaxion Sleep Schedule is, but I'm sure most of you are familiar with it. Those who are unclear, it is a sleep program where you sleep for 30minutes every 6 hours.

I am currently on day two of the program, and so far I've encountered nothing at all difficult. I am still full of energy, and I only get tired early morning and after naps. The reason I am creating this thread is to ask the members of this forum for any tips or tricks that they have concerning adapting to polyphasic sleep.

My current tips that I have found very effective include:

1) Do NOT sleep in bed, its better to sleep in a chair.
2) Do NOT sit down upon awakening from a nap, I try to walk around, throw cold water on my face..etc.
3) Place cell phone alarm in sock, and wear the sock. This prevents unconscious turning off of alarms, its quite tricky it get the alarm!
4) Eat after awakening, not before napping. Its also better to eat easy to digest foods like juices(Orange juice helps me a lot), and fruits n veggies. My worst nap so far, was after I ate a juicy steak :P.

Anyways, those are some of my own tricks or tips. Please tell me some of yours if you have ever done polyphasic sleep!

I am currently recording my Dymaxion Sleep Schedule here if your interested.

Default Overslept

I am on day three of the Dymaxion Sleep Schedule and I have been feeling pretty good throughout this experiment. Today was my first mistake of oversleeping. I have been napping on my chair the last 3 days and that has proven to be extremely effective at helping me wake up when the alarm goes off. I decided for my 6am nap that I would try to sleep in my bed.. BIG MISTAKE. I woke up at my noon alarm, so I basically missed two naps with this over sleep. I hope it doesn't mess up my sleep schedule too much, but if it does, oh well. I'll continue on like it never happened, and make sure that it does not repeat. My first mistake is my last mistake!

Recording my thoughts here How to sleep TWO hours a day and have MORE energy!

Oh what is all this about? What the heck is wrong, has ever been wrong, or will ever be wrong with going to bed at night, getting eight hours deep wonderful natural sleep, and waking up refreshed in the morning????
Are we such control freaks that we regret those lovely hours of sleep unconsciousness and dreams, or imagine we are "wasting precious time"??

Agreed. If you really want to do this to yourself, or if you really NEED that time, just know when to stop.

Why use 9hours to have good sleep, when it only takes 30 minutes to have even better sleep?

The idea is to gain 7 hours of waking time a day, which ends up adding 30% more to our lives. Why live healthy other than to gain more years of life? This is no different.

What does sleep and dreams take away from our lives? What is wrong with a little unconsciousness, or a little alternative consciousness (Nature's way of balancing our outer and inner lives) ?

Well, I am assuming that because you are on this website, you care about extending your life, correct?

I'd like you to answer this, what is the difference between living more years, than living longer waking time? They seem the same to me. I do not know of any other way that can add 30% to a lifetime, other than lowering sleep.

If you enjoy dreaming, you still dream on these naps. On a normal 9hour sleep, how many dreams you remember? I remember 4 a day, one for each nap. We dream! Better yet, lucid dreaming is amazing, and you don't experience that frequently on a normal sleep schedule. Napping is better for dreams my friend.

Why do you want more unconsciousness? Once you die, you will have plenty of unconsciousness. Do you really enjoy being unconscious more than you enjoy waking life?

I personally prefer living life more, rather than sleeping it away. We only live for so long, why not make the most of it.
