Default Energy

Hi all, this is my first post.

Latley i feel like im getting my business/financial side of things right for a change, motivation is going well etc. But because im putting so much time into this it affects being at home relationship mainly. I just feel like i dont have the energy when i get home. At the moment i work 2 day 7am to 7pm then switch to 2nights 7pm to 7am. then 4 days off. its hard to get a sleep pattern. I've started at the gym and need to step that up but what else can i do to increase energy, whats the best things to eat drink or to avoid to help me wake my lazy ass up

Thanks in advance.

Craig.

This is a forum, it may take several hours for someone to respond

With your schedule, I'd say a biphasic sleep pattern would be effective. A short nap during the day will revitalize you! Stay away from the coffee, and instead drink lots of water.

Yeah drink lots of water...don't be lured by energy drinks though. You'll become dependant and ill from the caffine. Also eat lots of raw food and stay away from heavy meals.

Beware sugary foods. They'll give you a temporary lift, but the ensuing slump far outweighs any temporary benefits...

A good sleep is a foundation for good health. I would definitely recommend that you find a new job which allow you to sleep before 12 midnite to the next morning if are serious about long term health.

Check out melatonin - The powerful hormone of darkness.

I usually have several glasses of green tea throughout the day. It doesn't have as much caffeine as coffee, and there are also versions available that are decaffeinated.

As for your work schedule, hopefully it's not one that you plan on sticking to long term. The recs given above should help you cope, but only so much can be done to manage such a sleep schedule healthfully.

My failsafe way to get to sleep is to count my breath. I try to breathe very slowly and deeply, quiet my mind during the inhales, and count the exhales. This keeps my mind busy by giving it something to focus on without letting it run wild and keep me up. If I'm not asleep by 100 (about 10 minutes) I might as well get up because I'm not tired.

I am often tired and trying to change this. Here is what I am trying:
1) Notice patterns of when I get tired, usually mid-afternoon. Try to plan some down time for this time of day; do computer work, meditation or something non-physical at this time.
2) Replace "I am tired" with the affirmation "I have more than enough energy to accomplish everything I want to do".
3) When I am tired, sit down for a few minutes and drink some water. Sit quietly (not reading or watching TV or anything) until I decide on my next activity.
4) Walk and move like a person who has lots of energy. Thrust my shoulders back and chest out and move purposefully. Sit straighter at the computer. Put more energy and focus into everything I do.
5) Go to the gym. Do more intense exercises while at the gym.

I feel like I am making some progress, but I am trying to change some long-ingrained thought patterns and I still have a ways to go.

With your work pattern it's going to be very difficult to get good rest. Is there no way to go to day shifts?

Think i will be starting to look for another contract shortly then. its crazy how these shifts affect you. before i started here i didnt have a cold in 3 years. in the year i've been here i must have had 1 a month easily.

suppose ill just have to get over not being able to have ma 4 days off and think about ma health now. hopefully one day i will have a decent passive income and will be able to dictate my schedule better.

thanks for the replys guys. will be trying the counting my breathe...
