Default What to eat/do to ward off cold/flu (hey, that rhymes! :))

I feel like I have a bit of a cold/flu/bug coming on.

What are some good things to eat or do in order to ward it off before it fully takes hold?

Thanks.

P.S. Is exercise a good thing or a bad thing if you're trying to stave off a cold? I'm currently doing quite well re: losing weight/getting fit and I hesitate to lose momentum, but I don't want to overstress my body if it's trying to heal, either.

Crazy as this may sound… the best thing for you to do when you feel like a cold/flu bug is coming on is to laugh and have fun…

Colds and flu are caused by viruses… and the only thing that can fight a virus is your own immune system… antibiotics, exercises or food are helpless in front of a virus…

However, it has been found that the immune system will be way more effective when you are in a happy mood…

A whole book (Anatomy of an Illness) has been written about this by Norman Cousins… a world renown personality…

So, knock yourself out… have fun… and beat the bug…

What will boost my immune system (in addition to feeling happy, which I'll try ) ? Presumably there are also foods and/or activities that will help?

Foods with lots of Vitamin C are often recommended for viruses. Is there anything else?

Coconut product/oil plus vitamin C rich food ( with no refined sugar added as it competes with the absorption pathway of vitamin C ) . Remember the olden day when coconut was regarded as the "tree of life" .... The tree of life...

Virus is clearly not invincible in the face of Lauric acid

Dr. Mary Enig.
Quote:
"Approximately 50% of the fatty acids in coconut fat are lauric acid. Lauric acid is a medium chain fatty acid, which has the additional beneficial function of being formed into monolaurin in the human or animal body. Monolaurin is the antiviral, antibacterial, and antiprotozoal monoglyceride used by the human or animal to destroy lipid coated viruses such as HIV, herpes, cytomegalovirus, influenza, various pathogenic bacteria including listeria monocytogenes and heliobacter pylori, and protozoa such as giardia lamblia. Some studies have also shown some antimicrobial effects of the free lauric acid."
Quote:
A Philippines research study shows that the coconut oil can delay as well as reduce HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) which spreads AIDS. The breakthrough may come as a light at the end of the long dark tunnel in the worldwide fight against AIDS.

The study, carried out by the government's San Lazaro Hospital and pharmaceutical giant United Laboratories since 1989, discovered that coconut chemical lauric acid inhibits, delays and reduces the spread of HIV virus. Lauric acid is the basis of monolaurin and sodium lauryl sulfate which were found as the active chemicals promising in controlling HIV.

I know what you are going to do next ...

A zinc supplement is also said to boost the immune system... also, you can wrap the neck area to keep it warmer... (there are lymphatic nodes in that area that will filter for germs and when they are warmer... they will work faster and more effectively)
