Hey everyone. I have a heavy problem on my back. Im extremely addicted to sugar. I used to eat really bad and starting this new year I began a vegetarian diet. I also started eating more raw organic foods and less processed "dead" food. But I OVER EAT! I KNOW that the food that I intake now is healthy for me. So my subconcious barriers break and I allow myself to over eat dark choclate, honey, fruits, etc. ALL healthy vibrant foods but I eat too much of it in a short amount of time. For example my mornings would start off excellent, (organic beet, carrot, kale and apple juiced together, and tea) I would also have some fruit throughout the morning stopping half an hour before lunch. THAN lunch comes and ill make 2 healthy spring rolls (unfried, filled with vegetables and nayonaise w/ dulse flakes) THEN it hits me...I will feel perfectly content , not overly full, a little empty infact. Considering Ive been eating so well in the begining of my day I will over eat during lunch (Bannana pudding, cereal, choclate, Goji berries, Frozen yogurt) <- Thats all at once too! Then I wont eat from 3 on... I run for half an hour or more. Then I get tempted to eat. At this point I havent eaten all day so I over eat again! >.< IM so ashamed. I dont know what to do. I cant afford proffessional help haha! Can anyone relate to this? How can I regain control? How can I stop my urgency for sugar? Should I fast? Do you recommend any books? HELP ME! PLEASE! |

It sounds like you aren't getting enough calories and/or protein. When you're not getting enough calories your body will start up serious unresistable cravings. It's just your body telling you that you aren't getting enough of something. I've found that it's usually protein, but not necessarily. It could just be calories in general, or even certain vitamins or minerals. If it's protein, the craving will be general but will be unsatisfied by sugar and continue until you eat protein or get completely stuffed (in the latter case, you'll still want more food but be unable to eat it). If it's general calories, you'll feel the craving until you get full, and they'll abate after that. If it's vitamins or minerals, you'll get a more specific craving. For example, salt cravings often indicate a lack of potassium or sodium in your diet. You need to remember that those vegetarian foods you're eating contain significantly less energy per gram than the non-veg equivalents. This can be kind of confusing to your eyes and stomach. To get enough calories on a veg* diet you'll probably need to eat much more volume than you think. This, of course, assumes your not eating greasy and nasty yet technically veg* food. If you've been going for too long on too little calories, your body probably entered into starvation mode. This is bad. If you were trying to lose weight, the progress stops in starvation mode (unless you really starve yourselft). When your body enters into starvation mode, it stops creating new muscle, begins eating your old muscles and organ tissue, and begins holding onto fats for dear life. If you've entered into starvation mode, start eating more and in a few weeks you'll be fine. You'll know that was the case by the sudden burst of energy you'll have when you up your caloric intake. |
