I think you would do better to accept your body for the summer, and work towards improving it slowly. Do NOT look for quick weight loss schemes. These are not healthy, and are almost never sustainable (i.e. you end up gaining back more weight than you lost) Instead, make small, healthy LIFESTYLE adjustments (NOT diets). The weight will come of more slowly, but you will be healthier, and more apt to keep it off. |

Aside from dehydration, the fastest mass to lose is muscle, as it has far fewer calories per pound than fat. What this generally means is that with rapid weight loss plans you're mostly losing water and muscle, harming your health and no longer being "toned". It also means that you'll be burning fewer calories afterward (due to having less muscle), and thus put on fat much more easily. Hence yo-yo dieting being the path to obesity. I second Natasha's advice.

Dehydration and severe caloric deficiencies will definitely drop the weight, but be ready to suffer the consequences. Your body will panic thinking it is being starved and when you do decide to eat again, the pounds will pack on. Just recently a study revealed that diets just don't work long term and serve as a predictor of long term weight GAIN. Diets just make you fatter | The Daily Telegraph You must read the book "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle". It's by far the best text I have read regarding the healthy way of lowering body fat while maintaining muscle mass.

Fasting (water fast, you'll find it here in the forum) is a fast way. You are loosing almost a kilogram per day. You will gain one or two kilograms when you stop fasting. So a 5 day fast might make you loose 3 or 4 kilograms. But only do fasting if you read enough about it and if you are in a healthy state. It takes some preparation and some discipline. And make sure you don't follow your old eating habbits once you're done. |

I suggest a 3 months "bad food" fasting on the following food of mass murderer. The side effect is that you will lose weight without worrying about nutrients deficiency. 1 ) Refined Sugar BBC NEWS | Health | Blood sugar 'boosts cancer risk' Sugar: Major Factor For Cancer Dietary Glycemic Load and Risk of Colorectal Cancer in the Women's Health Study -- Higginbotham et al. 96 (3): 229 -- JNCI Journal of the National Cancer Institute 2 ) Fried food ( damaged vegetable oil, oxidized cholesterol ), Our body isnt meant to take food (especially unsaturated fatty acids) that are nuked. 3 ) Refined carbohydrate + denatured vegetable oil ( french fries, cookies, bread loaded with sugar, chips and etc ) Recommended food Some whole grain, vegetable, some fruits, nuts, organic egg, raw pure mik (NO rBGH ! ) and grass fed animal food. Dont nuke them with high heat though. Last edited by escapee; 04-12-2007 at 09:42 AM. |

If you are really heavy build, please consult a doctor. Eat 5 or 6 SMALL meals a day every 3 hours or so. i eat at 6, 9, 12, 3 and 6. Make the small meals healthy, nothing with a lot of fat or sugar. Eat fruit if your hungry between your eating times. Drink minimal 2 Liter water a day. DONT eat Chocolate, cookies or other sugary things. Here is my diet for now as an example. 6am, 2 slices of bread with a little bit of chicken, or 30Gram Grain. 9am, a soup with 2 rice waffles. 12, 2 slices of bread with something on it ( find something healthy) 3pm, Soup with 2 rice waffles 6pm, evening diner. My advice, keep it small and simple plus healthy Not a full plate of potatoes and a fat pack of meat. I try to keep it with rice or spaghetti's and something like 100 grams of fish . When you are on a diet, the food itself is not the issue, it is the mental, the thinking that makes you want to diet. Imagine yourself being in good shape, flexible, healthy. Visualize what aspects of your life would be better. Mental power Hope you find this usefull. If there is something wrong with the English used in this post, please notice if its unreadable.

How much do you plan to lose by summer? I think atkins is rather effective. You could easily lose 1-1.5kg a week.

Drinking 8 to 12 glasses of fresh green juice also makes you drop the pounds by the boatload, and still gets you the nutrients you need. But personally, I think slowly transitioning to a lighter way of eating that contains less bad food (sugar, processed foods, etc) is healthier in the long run.

One point that this thread is missing is that "weight loss" is irrelevant. There are dozens of ways - most of them very unhealthy - to lose weight quickly. What you want is BODY FAT loss, and the fastest way to make that happen is a combination of an effective resistance AND cardio training program in conjunction with a healthy diet. One quick tip for blasting through body fat quickly but in a healthy manner is to do moderate intensity cardio training first thing in the morning before you eat anything. Your body is in a carbohydrate-depleted state after sleeping, and by doing cardio in that state, you will burn through body fat more quickly than any other exercise method or diet plan that I have ever heard of. |

I've had many clients who just want to lean up a bit more for the beach summer... Here's how: Minimize sugar. (any carbs that you have to unwrap to eat) Consume .8 to 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. Eat lean protein sources and protein powders to get to your required intake. Make your carb intake vegetables - more greens the better! Drink water and no calorie drinks. Now understand this is a short term deal. When you transition back to "normal" eating, increase your cardio intensity (which you should do anyway) and slowly increase your carb intake. Continue weight training as well, using bodyweight or free weights/machines. Keeping glycogen low through lowered sugar intake and resistance training will do the trick! Hope this helps. Richard |

aaronmp2003 is right as far as i know, you should be looking for body fat loss, and not just weight loss, where i do believe that 6 small meals a day would be the best solution. As far as the meals go, i would add 1 serving complex carbs and 1 serving of protein per meal. In addition be sure to work out with both cardio, and weight training, and if you can, in the morning where your metabolism will be boosted for the rest of the day. |

I read this somewhere... do 45 minutes of cardio in the morning then another 45 minutes of cardio in the evening Cut down food quantity by 25% (you can still eat what you want). In about 6 weeks, you will have lost massive amounts of weight. And, this makes perfect sense, too (consume less calories, burn more). |

IMO, Nothing works better than restricting starchy caborhydrate and refined carbohydrate like rice, pasta, sugar and etc when it comes to weight loss . If you are eating a diet that is very rich is starchy carbohydrate. You need a marathon kind of exercise to keep your insulin/blood sugar in check. Otherwise , diabetes, obesity and chronic disease are the consequences as evident in the current heath status of the world ( 1 in 3 American are diabetic ?) . I think food choice is important when you want to lose weight the most efficient way. Favor non starchy carbohydrate (GREEN VEGETABLE) , some low GI fruits (fruits are a mixed blessing, it's bad for diabetes) , protein from organic source, healthy fat and adjust the level of starchy carbohydrate as according to your physical activities. The above opinion is based on my experience and reading . Remember Carbohydrate = Preferred energy source. When it's unused it's turned into fat with the help of insulin . It takes a deficit of 7,000 calories to loose 1kg of fat. therefore everytime you have this energy deficit you will loose 1kg of fat. Any other faster methods of weight loss i.e a kilo a day, are just temporary water losses- may help you squeeze into a smaller size for a day or two but will quickly return. Unfortunately you need to either eat less or exercise more to get the calorie deficit going. My advice if you want to loose weight quickly take up long distance hiking- walking for 7-8 hours a day for a week int he wilderness and not taking any junkfood with you should be a surefire receipe- that's why health farms work. But then you have to make long term changes to maintaint he loss!

Is is easier to loose weight than to initiate the lifestyle changes and new habits which will enable a person to maintain a healthy weight than it is to loose weight. Plan ahead and visualize your life after the weight loss phase to building a healthier physical, mental and emotional self. I wish I could help every person who wishes to loose weight think about health and maintenance after the weight loss phase. Happy trails to you! | |
