I weigh about 122-132 (scales tell me differently, I don't know which is right. Probably the 122). I am really wanting to fast at least once for the experience, but I've heard warnings to underweight people. However, I took skinfold and caliper tests, and they tell me my body fat is about average, I just don't have much muscle (lol). Do you have any advice? Should I even be doing this at all?

How old are you? If you're past the growing stage (21 or so) it should be fine. Even if you're younger, an occasional fast of a day or two should be no problem. Also, how tall are you? The body is a remarkable thing, and in fasting mode even skinny people can manage to go for quite a while. The more experienced one is, and the less toxins remaining in one's fat stores, the easier it will be to fast longer periods, though generally one to seven days is plenty, and some teachers consider it counterproductive to go much longer than that. Seven days should be doable for anyone with at least a few pounds of fat. |

I'm almost 19. Also, I'm about 5'9 (I don't why I didn't mention that). I'm mainly wanting to try a 16 hour fast first, then maybe a 36-hour fast. I don't think I'm really that underweight, and I eat a largely plant-based diet, so fasting wouldn't be too much of a system-shock. Hold on, I'm currently having an asthma and coffee-induced panic attack, I'll get back to you. Last edited by The David; 04-12-2007 at 01:17 AM. Reason: I spelled 'coffee' wrong. |
