| I don't buy into restricting calories to lose weight. There is a much better way which involves ratios of macro-nutrients. I can strip fat off my body quite fast and easily (normally do it before summer). I'm actually writing an in-depth article about it at the moment and will be posting it tomorrow evening. All low-calorie diets eventually slow down your metabolism and the weight loss ceases. When you get fed up and up the calories, you'll put it back on again - it's futile. |

| Caloric restriction for longevity/health has interested me since my early to mid-teens, though I chose to wait until at least my early 20s to consider getting very serious about it so that growth would not be impeded. At age 14 I did start fasting for one day per week, and continued that for a few years, finding that it provided me with more energy. I've also always eaten less than most people, simply as a result of chewing my food at least 30-60 times out of habit. When I eat out, my meals are usually about half the size of everyone else's just so we can finish at about the same time. Eating slowly, I feel full on less food. At 5'9'', I tend to weigh about 155 pounds at less than 10% bodyfat. It's possible I'd have grown a bit larger had I eaten more and exercised less as most men in my family are over 6 feet tall, but considering that most of the guys in my family also end up weighing over 200 pounds with large bellies it's a fair trade off. Many serious CR practitioners at my height weigh only 110 to 130 pounds. In the foreseeable future I'll likely keep my weight over 140, as I enjoy my physical strength. When lifting weights more seriously last year my weight had shot up to 180, but I decided that was a little heavier than I needed to be, so now I've gravitated back toward my set point. Each person decides how far they want to go. There are a number of books and websites you can check out on this topic, with this being a good place to start: Research that will change your life! | CRS CR (particularly when done gradually), in most every animal tested on so far, has significantly lengthened the average lifespan and improved overall health, as death by all causes (cancer, heart disease, etc.) is reduced. Going by biomarkers, it looks like humans can experience similar results. Last edited by openeyes : 04-03-2007 at 06:33 PM. |
