Default Improving stamina and recovery time

Hi all,

A quick question for everyone out there - I'm looking for ways to improve my stamina and recovery time across the board. I'm a shiftworker, and often have to work night shifts that are fourteen hours or longer, with no sleep and perhaps time for a meal or two. I love my work, but I'm keen to find ways to make it a little less taxing, and to recover faster.

Here's my current way of doing things:

27, male.

Exercise: Distance running (5-15 km per session) and some cycling (rarely more than 5 km), five or six days a week.

Diet: Vegetarian plus small amounts of environmentally responsible meat.

Alcohol: a couple of beers, perhaps 3 times a week.

General health: Very good. I normally sleep well, around 8 hours per night.

Any suggestions that anyone might have would be very welcome.

Hi there!

Looks pretty healthy to me. You may want to try some very vitamin supplementation. Some strength training might make a difference. Certainly, getting enough sleep will be a major factor. Also, quality calorie consumption during the 14 hour shifts.

I hope this helps!

Best,

Richard
