Question Fasting and exercising with injuries.

I've been "dieting" with no measurable results for about 2 months. I eat approximately half of my necessary caloric output each day, breaking the fast once or twice a week for things like Sunday dinner or outings with friends, but always being careful not to go just too crazy with the food.

I started walking 5 miles a week around 2 weeks into my diet, which had no apparent effect on my size or weight over the next month and a half. Last week I started walking 4-6 miles 5 days a week, and injured an ankle (think I have Achilles Tendinitis).

As part of my new life changes that I have been plotting for the last several months, major dietary changes and activity changes have been planned. I'm still able to walk on flat ground without too much pain, as long as I wear a brace, so I'm not wanting to give up exercise. However, I'm wanting to do a massive detox. In the last few years I've quit a lot of unhealthy habits, and also given up eating a lot of junk food (McDonald's was at one time my primary food source).

I'm wondering about the danger of continuing exercise while on a water fast with an injured ankle. I want the ankle to heal properly so that I can continue to exercise easily, but I also feel prepared right now to fast for as long as needed to cleanse my system so I can "start with a blank slate" on foods that are healthier for me.

This isn't my first time fasting, although it is my longest planned fast, with my initial goal being 10 days before assessing whether to continue or cease. At my height and weight, and considering my standard caloric use, I can probably fast for around 2-3 months before going into starvation. I will be monitoring hydration, body fat percent, and weight carefully throughout the fast.

My only real question here is whether the healing of my ankle will be adversely effected by continued exercise during the fast. Any ideas, comments, or suggestions on the rest of my post are welcome, though.

Thanks,
~md5sum~
