Exclamation 5k to 50k in 12 weeks

I'm inspired by The 4-Hour Body to finally train for a marathon; something I've wanted to do for a long time.

Now, I've never been to a gym, and the training plan schedules lots of gym exercises.

My question: Can I start straight away with week one, or do I need any other preparation before I start?

Thanks,
Lich

The book should have instructions...I believe it recommends a lot of injury prevention exercises first, which may or may not be part of the 12-week program-I don't remember.

Yes, it does say something about running on grass 30 minutes and some stretchings + ART (which I can't really do).

It also says he was required some stats before the start, which he did not meet.

The weights in the training plan are obviously too heavy for me, since I've never trained in a gym regularly. I don't really know what weights to use.

Out of interest, I haven't read the book, but how fast is that 50k supposed to be? And are you supposed to be able to run it all or run/walk?

And this is for someone who hasn't done any running before? That's pretty impressive.
