If you did how does it feel for you? What's the difference? Did you feel bored when you first quit? What did you do different to occupy your time? How long did it take for you to start feeling better? |

I did quit drinking and in my opinion the difference has been huge. Back in the time, I'd describe myself as having lack of concentration, being indifferent to my future, having bad memory. Now my whole body seems to function much better. How to replace the social aspect? First of all, you can still party even if you don't drink. Just learn how have fun without alcohol. You could also find an organization to contribute to the world and spend your time with like-minded people. The impact was pretty immediate in my case. Half a year, perhaps even sooner. |

Coming off of an opiate addiction I felt a big relief and lots of boredom/depression/cravings that lessen but in 3 years some of that is still very much there. Even doing the whole healthy lifestyle thing. I see why people have ongoing problems with that. | |

| I did several changes at once and among them were quitting smoking and unhealthy foods. It was part of a bigger transformation and that gave it a lot of weight in my eyes and completely eliminated any temptation. It's much easier to frame it this way when you have a bigger picture that you're aiming towards than just saying "i wanna quit for the sake of quitting...because it's not good..." you need to convince your subconscious or otherwise you'll find yourself back to square one in less than 3 weeks...

After you quit long enough to look back and see how and where you've changed, alcohol and drug use seem very unnecessary. The transition to and from eating healthy is subtle but the difference is immense, you feel some of it immediately but there is a point you get to where you really notice it. |

Recently I changed my diet to only really simple foods: fruit, vegetables, meat, eggs and nuts for the most part (I highly reccommend reading The Omnivors'e Dilemma by Michael Pollan). I highly reccommed food combining as well. Took my stomache a couple days to get used to feeling full off this simple diet. What I used to consider feeling "full" was really feeling overly full because of indigestion. Anyway, the bottom line is I felt better right away and have continued to feel better and better. Excercise is the only thing I find to be as important as this new diet. Improving both has drastically elevated my mood throughout the day. Everything is easier when you feel good.

As for drugs I've always felt moderation is all the matters. But I guess that's hard for most people. Whenever I have time to kill I use it to get outside and get some excercise or just stay in and read something useful.
