Smile Running 9 Miles

Just wanted to share this quick milestone with this group...

Some of you might know that I've been running (again) since March. The first time I ran on March 10, 2010, I probably went less than a quarter of a mile before I was completely winded. On Tuesday this week, I ran 9 miles without stopping. I was going to run 10, but after 8 I knew I wouldn't make it past nine. Still, that's a great accomplishment for me, and being 30 lbs lighter is a lot of fun too. Now I can wear the cuter clothes, and I LOVE that. I'm 32 years old, and it's nice to be in shape like the 23 year olds and sometimes better.

For anyone that is trying to lose weight and is healthy enough to run, I have to tell you that running took the weight off like nothing else I have ever done. I'm not saying that that is how it will be for you, because I know everyone is different, but running is relaxing and makes me feel great after I do it. I always feel better after I run, and pretty soon I will probably add some weight training to the mix, though I have been procrastinating that.

I'd love to hear about others' health accomplishments as well. I hope everyone else is meeting their goals too.

Drew

Many celebrities run to keep their weight down. But I know a thin woman that does not need to lose weight. But she drinks a couple of cups of coffee a day and has a tendency to get stressed out. So she runs 5 miles everyday to calm her down and help her relax.

*Drew 78*, I think you are doing a great job~

I am more into walking, I am the *1 hour walker* and I do my *walking* everyday And now you are making me think it could be a good idea to try some long distance running too... I might try it on weekends, it could be a great pastime for these days I am so sick of getting shrinked all day by the cold weather in Shanghai I think really need to get a good sweat and hv my blood pump again

Anyway, keep r'cking *Drew 78*~

I am not a super athlete or anything, but I recently ran my first marathon without taking any walk breaks.

Finished ahead of Al Gore's time but got beat out by Oprah's time.

Next marathon I am going to beat Oprah, mark my words!

I never thought I could even run 6 miles, let alone 26. But now I can see that nearly anyone can build up the mileage, if they have the capacity to run a mile or two....

Running is awesome. Good stuff. Big congrats to you drew, 9 miles is huge. In many ways going from 0 to 9 miles is a bigger achievement than going from 9 to 26.....so good for you!

My brother is a runner and runs something like 15 miles a day...but I have heard that running can mess your knees up if you overdo it. Sure, it may be a great weight loss strategy, but both Steve and Dr. Mercola have hurt their knees running. Nine miles isn't overkill, unless your body isn't ready to run nine miles.

I'm just saying be careful and I've heard a more effective form of running is interval training, where you give all you have in short bursts, then rest, then start again. I'm sure you can find that somewhere online. P90X or something like that. It's been recommended by fitness professionals and doctors. It will take less time as well. But if you're feeling great now, keep it up.

Yes, great improvement. The body certainly has a strong sense of muscle memory, so if it's been this fit before, it's easier to return back to that level of fitness.

I'm not a runner myself, but I do enjoy a good game of squash or floor hockey!
