Hello, Is it beneficial to do enemas once on a daily basis? I was primarily on raw diet and once in a while I eat cooked food and when that happens, I resort to Enemas to clean it. Ever since I relocated, I have been eating almost 1 cooked dish in the evening and this is making me uncomfortable. So I have been doing Enemas almost daily for past few days. I'm not inclined to continue this on a regular basis, but wanted to get some opinion from people who are familiar with this. Thanks. |

Your body should not need enemas on a daily basis. If it does, then there could be something wrong with your digestive system and/or your diet. The human body has evolved to digest many diets, even unhealthy diets, so you shouldn't need to be using enemas at all, especially since you're a young guy. I suggest giving up the enemas. I'm no doctor, though - you should probably go see one. |

This is not a healthy practice to get into. Your body shouldn't need this and even patient's in hosp wouldn't have this done daily unless under specific circumstances of a massive blockage. Do you drink enough fluids. Constipation is often due to this. Alison |

Here is a site on it to get more information on enemas. But I think that it is like a need for washing. If your hands do not get dirty, then you do not need to wash them many times a day. But if they are getting dirty a lot, you need to wash them more. The above site explains more on what causes a need for enemas and when they are needed. |

Thank you for the replies. I do realize that it's not healthy to do it frequently. What happens is that I resort to it when I indulge on bad food. For instance, I eat raw almost till the evening and some crazy self sabatoging behaviour leads me to a cooked meal ( Sometimes it's even vegan) in the evening. Now I feel uncomfortable right after eating it( not while), but I plough through and I go to sleep, but I do an enema in the morning. Why am I driving myself to that cooked meal is something I'm addressing myself, but I'm using enema's as a short cut method to clean(per se) when I eat a cooked meal. I noticed that this also gives me a roundabout excuse when making a decision to eat cooked food(yeah...I can always do an enema tomorrow..;-)..so no biggie.. Since going raw, the evening meal is where I have challenge figuring out. I start the day with smoothie and then have a huge salad for the lunch. So having them again in the evening is kinda boring. I contemplate for choices and after a point of time, I become hungry and my animal mind takes over and drives 10 miles to get some cooked food to eat....(and an enema follows the next morning :-(( ). Sorry about the details, but I thought giving a larger picture might help Last edited by irunthereforeiam; 10-26-2010 at 09:01 PM. |

Maybe you should rethink your choices of being raw? You also shouldn't have such a negative outlook on cooked foods, whether or not you eat them or not. Saying something is bad ( which it's not, because food isn't "bad") is what's causing the issues in the first place, and making you think that you NEED to have an enema. If you can't eat raw, and have to rely on enemas to live a normal life, then time to rethink what you consider a normal life. Considering you only drink a smoothie, and then a salad before dinner... I'd say you are just really HUNGRY. So of course you are going to go for cooked food. A salad and smoothie is not nearly enough calories or nutrients. Go back to eating normal, and if you really want to go raw, the learn to eat raw first, before you just jump in it and hurt your body. There is PLENTY more to eat on a raw diet, then just salad and a smoothie. |

Eating french fries and burgers, probably isn't the best for you, depending on where you got it from. But if you are willing to eat those things, why are you on a raw food diet, even to go as far as doing an enema? | |

My understanding of enemas is that they are for the purpose of cleaning out your colon. If you do this EVERY day then there won't be anything there to clean, so it seems like a waste of time, and overkill to me to do it every day. Once a month or every few months sounds like a more reasonable thing to do IMO. Raw food doesn't really leave such a build up I think. Enemas are great for purging toxic traces of meat and other food that hasn't broken down properly and gets stuck in the colon. |

If your motive is to get rid of "bad" food you have eaten, that is no different from vomiting food back, using diuretics to get rid of it or exercising with the motive of getting rid of the extra cals eaten during a binge. Can you stop this pattern today? If it's easy to give up now then that good, if not it sounds like you need some help to alter your belief system. The great thing is you can change all these patterns. If you knew how bad my eating disorder got and how I am today you would not recognise me as the same person. Get help if you need it before you damage your body and your health. Alison |

Yes. I do think it's an eating disorder and it's because of some other challenges I have in other part of life. But I have not done it for the past 3 days. I plan to streamline it by using it just for one day per week. Thanks all for your replies. |

Hmm well you do realise that having an enema can't counteract unhealthy food (ie burger and fries)? It's like you're using them to negate the damage you've done, and you can't do that. If you get an urge for cooked food, then try and create something cooked, but still healthy, using fresh, natural ingredients. That's better than going 100% raw and then bingeing on something that's really bad for you! |
