Spirulina is a powerful appetite supressant. But some disagree. Some say that because it is so nutrient dense you have less desire for foods. Take 90 seconds ( minute and a half) to see video with Dr Oz and Dr Fuhrman about that subject of starving for nutrients causing people to overeat.

Spirulina is in greens drinks and they are for nutrition but read on this webpage about a woman losing 90 pounds in 90 days just by adding it to her diet. It is highlighted in yellow!

Nourish your body thin, instead of starving your body fat!

Eat a little bit less every day. Your stomach "shrinks" slowly.

Drink half a glass of water before eating, eat half, wait 20 minutes and only if you are still hungry, eat more.

While eating drink something with a strong flavor (mango-water, ice tea, apple juice etc).

These are "tricks" to not over eat, while also not refusing your body the nutrients it needs.

Seth Roberts wrote a book about using a variety of tricks to reduce natural hunger. I would probably read it and apply it, but I don't have any problem with overweight on my own and therefore can't speak from personal experience.

On of his suggestions is the idea of using a clamp to close your nose while eating.

What's the reason for trying to reduce your appetite?
Start paying more attention to your body, to truly listen to your feelings. Many times, the feeling of wanting to eat does not correspond to hunger. It may be boredom, fatigue (fatigue used to be a big one for you, your body's reflex is to go for sweet and fatty foods when it feels drained), restlessness, or even a certain nutrient deficiency (not eating enough protein gives me a very particular feeling of hunger, like a bottomless pit).

Once you know what all these different feelings are like, address them one by one at the source.

As for the true hunger that remains, it is a message from your body. Treat it with respect. Be present in your cooking and eating, consciously provide nutritious and delicious food to your body when it asks for it. In my experience it's the healthiest way to deal with food.

Aelle nailed it.

I would also add
a) eat lots of vegetables so that you just can't eat anymore regardlles of whether you have appetite or not,
b) eat a handful of nuts 20min before your real meal,
c) before starting to eat, smell your food,
d) drink a lot throughout the day - feel like eating, drink water,
e) eat foods that satisfy you a lot - for me these would be oatmeal with honey, cinnamon and cocoa, potatoes with scrambled eggs, omelet with veggies.

You could always just go the other way and start doing exercise, or exercise with more intensity. That way you don't have to deprive yourself of the food you like.

This is gross, but it works. (And that's actually HOW it works. lol) Please don't read this unless you're ready to kill your appetite NOW. And don't abuse the technique. I'm not responsible for malnutrition or anorexia, and I'm not a medical expert.

....seriously, I'm warning you. Don't blame me for drycleaning expenses when you vomit on your own lap.

.

Just Google pictures or read about the most disgusting, noxious nastiness you can find. Search for herpes clusters, bodily fluids (esp. lungs), corpses, the freshly chopped heads of slaughterhouse animals, warts, corn diarrhea, loogies.

Or you can YouTube someone hocking up a loogie. For some reason, listening to the ohhhohhhckkkkhhghghghhkwaaaPUH! phlegm gargle and watching a little compact ball of nastiness fly out their mouth to splatter on the pavement...is really quite appetite dampening.

Worst case scenario, you could imagine EATING that loogie. Visualize the taste and the thought of someone's green toxic gunk being smothered by your tongue and tickling your throat as it goes down..........imagine the sharp sickly stench wafting up to your nostrils.

Did you lose 5 pounds yet?

I'm the opposite. I'm a happy piglet - I eat the house including the roof shingles when times are good, but if I'm stressed out, I physically cannot eat. The thought of food being in my mouth and entering my body sickens me. Luckily my spazz fest never lasts too long.

It's weird how stress nearly always DOES affect the appetite...but in opposite directions with different people.

I usually eat during times of stress... BUT during marital problems I felt physically ill much of the time and lost several kg because I had no appetite for food Regular stress though... nah I eat like a piggy!

However, when things were going really bad for me relationship wise I spent a lot of time feeling nauseous... nothing puts you off food like nausea!
