Talking ? Day Water Fast

So I saw the people that did have water fasting topics here have really supportive replies and comments unlike the typical "that's super unhealthy, really bad for you, etc etc" i frequently get.

This will be my little blog I suppose. Any joiners? That be great...because I'm super competitive...haha

Sooo. I want to water fast for 10 days but i'm not sure if i can that long. So right now my goal is 2...2 small days. (Start small, dream big later right?)

I have fasted before but the longest is only 5 days. I've always wanted to try up to 10 days but I don't know...something always stops me..maybe it's a combination of discouragement, missing food, lack of energy, and bad breath really bothers me.

Sometimes, I use a tiny bit of mouth wash (but only if i have to go to work and face the public...courtesy and all) but i don't swallow any. Think that's okay?

And I read (actually done a LOT of research that's why I'm comfortable-ish with fasting) that electrolyes in your body will be really low so a faster should add a little bit of salt to their water....i don't know if I should...I mean it wouldn't hurt would it?

Alright 10/13/10 Day 1 here I come!

Good night guys!

Default Blerr

Ug. Feels like so long ago since I posted yet...not really.

Day 2.

5:10 PM

Can I do it? errg. Went to new job today, a newly opened pizza restaurant...they cooked a bunch of food for us to sample and oh....looked soo good. I barely could refuse. The lady looked at me like I was nuts and anorexic. Bleh.

I start my other job (yeah somehow I got 2 jobs at the same time haha) tomorrow. Still not sure how many days I will go. I just wanna get passed today. Hopefully.

My symptoms so far: bad breath, i'm starting to feel a little weak, i feel a bit sad, and feeling a little bit cold. Feel dehydrated a bit but don't feel like drinking too much water.

Yep! that's about it. Hopefully I will make it through today and post tomorrow

Ciao!

Hey JaJa,

Are you fasting still? I find the first few days are the hardest but then you get in the groove of it and it's actually quite enjoyable and food is less desirable.

I usually fast a couple days a month, and I'll join in if you need support still.

I just passed 72 hours of my second ever water fast. This one started a lot rougher than the last one. I think I was having trouble getting rid of the turkey dinner (thanksgiving in canada). I had a headache for the first two days but it seems to have passed now.

I too just started a new job and am also rinsing with mouth wash before work. I'd like to hear if this is ok or not?

My first water fast went a smooth 7 days. I don't really have a set goal for this one. After the first two days I really wanted to stop on the third day but now it feels like I could go two weeks so we'll see how it goes.

Kudos and good luck to you!

Unfortunately, the mouth wash rinse doesn't last long before the dragon breath takes over again. Haha. I don't think i've had to use mouth wash so far..Hmmm.

This is my 3rd day and i want to stop but deep down I don't want to. I want a nice long fast/rest for my body.

Thanks for posting!

Default 3rd Day

Alright I guess I shall update ^_^

(That smiley face is the opposite of how i'm feeling right now ^)

2:03 PM. My tongue is coated and feels grain-y...kind of a yellow whitish coating...sorry bout the description.

Last time I had a ..intense dream. I dreamed I broke the fast and binged on a bunch of garbage foods and then afterwards, I started crying in the dream. Felt really real. When I woke up, I was really happy that it was just a dream. For some reason, my dreams are always really strong/scary when I am fasting.

My legs feel kind of drained of energy except I think I still feel like I have plenty, not the most, but plenty of energy. Maybe it's because I haven't been that active lately. Maybe tonight I can do some physical activity, but I've been pretty busy.

Was tempted to quit earlier because the cheese bagels looked sooo good (I heart cheese). Looked in the fridge too. It's a good thing we don't have very much food in there right now, and what we do have is quite unappetizing.

3rd day. I made it past the 2nd day. can I make it past today too? I work from 4-8PM today, so I think I will end the day with a nice movie and then go to bed early.

My new (mini) goal: Make it past 3 full days. Just today.

Sorry bout all the writing ^

On the contrary. You only drink water. Preferably distilled.

Well done!

I'n my experiences once you make it past day 3 it actually gets easier physically (no hunger pangs). Unfortunately, at least for me, the emotional cravings increase. It becomes hard for me to be around any sort of appetizing food.

Thank you

I finally passed my full 3 days. I remember yesterday at the end of the night, my stomach started growling, almost painfully. Today it's gone. But I admit, emotionally, I want to eat. Before, all I was craving was those special costco cheeseburgers, baked cheese bagels, and the amazing pizza my new job made. Now I think I am not craving them much anymore. I am just craving to eat. The watermelon, for example, looks delish. Erg.

Yesterday was rough though. Any advice? I just started my other new job at a gym/health club. I'm fine working two jobs but I found out what my hours are going to be like there: Fridays...and saturdays...from 6 (usually, until closing. Closing = 11:30PM so I would get out of there by midnight or so) I am 18 years old, I just..do not want to be a job slave on all my fridays and saturdays. I asked my manager, and she said those would be the only hours that work with my schedule. I can't..well won't..do that. I worked from 4-12:20 last night. For my fast, it was a good thing because I was distracted pretty much the whole night. But after my fast...it's a no-go. I have to quit. (and you have to get CPR certified, which I don't think is worth it because I am getting minimum wage and I plan on quitting ASAP aka this month)

So I don't know what to do. Should I just tell my manager "hey, I don't think this is going to work out, I'm really sorry, but I didn't realize that I was going to be so busy with school etc" ...I don't know. Does that sound dumb? I feel bad though because our family friend "highly" recommended me, and it would make him look back.

I know I just want to quit and work as a server at my pizza place, and maybe a night a week or so at my parent's restaurant (where I had been working for the past 4 years).

PS my feet are feeling very cold

The are a lot of benefits to water fasting!

The ones i'm looking towards are:

Healing of damaged cells, developing a new taste of food (renewing our natural preference for healthy foods instead of all the junk stores sell now-adays), shrinking of the stomach to it's normal size, detoxing the garbage inside bodies, fat loss, a state a relaxation, realizing how often we actually eat food, get rid of excess salt in body, and that's all from the top of my head.

I've done so much research on fasting

How's Day four treating you?

I'm on day three myself. It's been a beautiful fast!

How long do you think you will go for? I am trying to decide between 7-10 days myself. I've done both 7 and 10 day fasts, and while 7 seem much more 'bareable' when I say it outloud, 10 days was actually my favourite fast that I did.

I think I want to go for 10 days, but i'm not sure. I'm just taking baby steps so far. First my goal was 2 days, then 3, and now it's 5 full days. So that means If I make it through today, I will be on my 5th day tomorrow. Wow. Kinda crazy, it feels like yesterday.

My mom just reheated some kind of chinese melon-soup dish, and it smells soooo good. I was tempted to eat it and I almost did until I thought of my fasting buddy that I am emailing. She said "i'll be thinking of you today" (not in a creepy way, just a nice, friend-type way) and after reading that, I just..thought that was really nice and I found some strength to pass on the food...for now.

I'm considering adding squirts of lemon to my water...yay or nay?

Haha. well I'll be back tomorrow if I make it though the rest of today. Time check? 12:38PM

Good luck/good day to everyone

No, no no no no no!

First a fast means only water. No need to say water fast. There are no salt water fasts. Please give me a link to the huge idiot who said to drink salt during a fast. I can come up with lots of jokes about that person. Or did you make it up or did you hear it from a drunk in a bar.

Salt is not a food. Put 4 ounces of it (or any rock) in water and drink it and YOU WILL DIE!

Salt has sodium and chloride in it. How many people have too little of those during a fast? No one. But one in 100 have a problem with too little potassium after 2 weeks of fasting. But taking salt could bring in on sooner and a potassium shortage can kill you during a fast. Master Cleanse Lemonade Diet, Juice Fasting and Water Fasting

Question: Have you / can you try chewing some sugarless gum to help with the bad breath??

I've never water fasted, but I believe if I tried I would def want to have gum around. the mint would help keep me from eating too.

Just a thought...

Ravenna,

I definitely wouldn't suggest it. Many people will say because it minimizes your cleansing properities, etc, which I'd have to see a study on to what extent to really put too much stock in, but for me it simply boils down to this:

I did this once, long ago, on a fast and it was TORTUROUS. I think something about chewing and even the sugary taste (though fake, I know) really got my saliva going and I was sooo hungry. I think it left my body expecting food, instead of resting, and it was an awful fast. I've never been hungry on a fast since then and I've never chewed gum again.
