I did it too much, on & off. I didn't always break properly, I got into a real old habit, of starve & binge. Anyhow, I now have a 24/7 distended belly that is hardened & sometimes in pain. I already eat raw. What can be done? I have now been eating solid food for 3 weeks. Will this be permanent? Or do I need to fast for a small amount of time? I really don't want to touch fasting again with a 10 foot pole. Should I continue eating & wait it out....? I am trying not to worry that it may be permanent. |

Have you been to a doctor? I'm usually the first person to avoid doctors, but if there was something wrong with me that I couldn't explain... then I'd get it checked out. Could be there's a good reason for the problem, and with the right knowledge you can get it sorted out. |

I recommend seeing a doctor too. I don't know what you mean by "too much fasting", but my friend who is a recovering anorexic (so, starving and purging) does have some permanent damage from it. Her digestion will never be the same. It's worth at least knowing if it will be the case for you. You say you fell into into an old habit of starve & binge. Do you have a history of eating disorder? In that case I would definitely seek professional help. |

The detrimental effects of binging are dramatically amplified after fasting, a time when our digestive system has been slumbering, has been temporarily compromised and needs to be gently and gradually re-awakened. Bloating can very quickly and dramatically occur if we give our digestive system more than it is ready for. If we break a fast too agressively and create this effect and then keep eating, there is no reason for it to go away. As to the emotional aspect of this which has very possibly led to the physical issues, i completely agree with aelle here: Fasting again and breaking the fast gently... juices alone for many days then vegetetables and fruits alone for many days before adding anything else... would almost certainly eliminate the problem, but it would require a strong sense of discipline that you may or may not posess at this time.

Yes, I have ED's, & it was silly of me to ever think ( I wasn't thinking, I just thought I could cure something) My IBS, & I hadn't been in that cycle for a year & a half, I spent a lot of time working on those issues to never go down that road. & I ended up messing myself over. 10 steps forward, 5 back. sigh. I won't do a colonic. Quote:

Yikes. I doubt it's permanent, but the most important thing besides the doctor's appointment is to learn how to love your body. I've recovered from two eating disorders. I've been to hell and back with the restrictive diets. Biggest thing that helped me? Got off the internet, stopped listening to the dogmatic raw evangelists As for what to do for your body, your doctor is going to be a way better source of information than a bunch of strangers on the internet. There are some really arrogant f*cktards out there that think they know what they're talking about, but have some faith in the establishment here. Sorry you're going through this rough time. If I can get through it, you can. Good luck. |

Find yourself a therapist specialized in EDs. Find yourself a recovery program. Surrender to their expertise. They may not know much about the raw food movement, but they know how to cure EDs. Then when you are truly and solidly recovered, you might be strong enough to choose this diet (or whichever suits your needs) again.

BUT I do believe the Raw diet is feeding another disorder of mine, & it has nothing to do with ED's.
