Ok, so a few months back, I read Steve's article on training oneself to wake up early by habit. So, by following his advice and waking up early *no matter what*, I managed to make myself an "almost" morning person. (i.e., I'd get up early, but it still didn't feel natural.) But here are some tips that pushed me over the edge. (It's 5:47 a.m. right now where I live * Don't charge out of bed. Starting the day nearly blacking out from dizziness will not exactly encourage you to wake up earlier. Sit up first, let your head adjust and then stand up, let your head adjust again. (Or maybe my head's just not screwed on properly. :-P) * Stretch a little. I don't know about you, but I'm a stretchy person by nature. Stretching your legs, arms, etc is refreshing. * Drink some water. Sleep is dehydrating, but don't drink so much that you bloat yourself. (One of my friends drinks an ENTIRE bottle of water in one sitting when she wakes up. My stomach would burst if I did that, lol) * Eat something ridiculous. I find that looking forward to cookies, brownies or coconut pad thai leftovers is highly motivating. * Yerba Mate. I don't know about you, but I hate the taste of coffee and tea doesn't have enough caffeine. Yerba mate tastes really sweet and good with stevia (a sweetener) in it and it gives you the coffee buzz without tasting disgusting and whoring up your breath. * Bounce. Don't laugh (too hard), but if you make like Tom Cruise and jump on your sofa or your bed, it's reinvigorating. I suppose it gets blood circulation flowing to your mind or something. Idk. Tom Cruise seems like an early bird type though, doesn't he? Hopefully these tips aren't obvious, but they definitely worked for me. It looks like an ordeal written out, but doing it is very quick. (Particularly the eating junk food part. |

When I was in high school I had to wake up by 6:30AM every day and this would have all been very beneficial. Once I graduated I started waking up at 9:15AM each day of the week. I now feel so refreshed and energized through out the day. I don't space out or feel that need to take a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. So what I am saying is that unless you have to wake up that early, what is the benefit? |

I was a postman for eighteen years. I used to get up at 4.30 am six days a week (winter was a real drag when I had to scrape the ice off my car's windscreen). Now I'm no longer a postman I don't have to rise so early but years of getting up at that ungodly hour has played havoc with my body clock and I still wake up very early most days.

Wake up early, I have been trying to rise early, but it hurts too much. Usually I sleep until the last minute and then I have to rush to work. It is somehow makes me competitive and since I commute to work by bicycle, I never be late, because I can pedal up the lost time. If I do have to wake up and it is important, then I sometimes don't go to bed and stay awake for it. |

Lately I've been getting up at 10am, but I think I'll go back to getting up at 7am. It doesn't matter anything for how awake or good I feel during the day and I just gained 3 hours in my day Thanks for reminding me.. I'll start on Sunday! |

How does that have nothing to do with waking up early? I go to sleep at around 12:15-12:30AM | |
