Default Your opinions on Kevin Trudeau's books

My mom bought the book "The Weight Loss Cure" by Kevin Trudeau and received his other 2 books free with the purchase - "Natural Cures" and "More Natural Cures". Anyway, I read thru a couple of them and find them kind of interesting, but there is a lot of negative press about them.

When I first read a little of the weight loss cure, I thought to myself there was no way that I could do all those things. But, I'm a vitamin taker and incorporated a few more vitamins after reading stuff about them. I've been trying to implement more and more organic foods into my diet - he recommends 100%. Tried the apple cider vinegar for my heartburn which actually worked. I've been taking prilosec everyday for I don't know how long. I don't plan on getting hcg injections or having a colon flush 15 times in a month, but a lot of the tips seem ok to me. I do research most things before I jump in and try them.

Anyway, just wondering what your take on his books are. Seems like people either love him or hate him!

If I remember right some court ruled that one of the products he sold was fraud.
That destroys also the credebility of the rest of his works.

I borrowed Kevin Trudeau's Natural Cures from a friend. While I think he raises some worthy points about how modern medicine leaves something to be desired, I find a couple of things in that book bothersome concerning form and content.

He uses LOTS and LOTS of exclamation points!!!!!!! He also has too many typos in his book -- could he at least use spell check? He claims he has tons of references, but rarely gives any to back up his claims.

Mainly he says: 1. Do the herbal cleanses. 2. Visit his website.
When you visit the site, it has vague stuff on it. For more indepth information (the actual cures), you have to "join," which of course costs money. Why bother reading a book on natural cures when he won't tell you what they are? I also find it irresponsible to tell people that ALL medications are harmful. I can think of some medical conditions, such as schizophrenia or epilepsy, that require medication, conditions that all the best health habits in the world would not be able to prevent or cure.

In the past couple of years, I have been trying to buy organic food as often as possible. Since reading Natural Cures, I have been buying even more organic food. I have also switched over from margarine to organic butter, which was hard for me given my animal rights inclinations.

I have never read any of his books or tried any of his products, mainly because every time I hear his name is related to articles like this one:

I think he's paranoid, at the very least. Of course, the court ruling is easily explained if his conspiracy theories are true, but he is also a convicted felon for other reasons, and his books are basically commercials for his products, whether they're real or not.

Everyone is looking for alternative medicine, so many will try to cash in on this fad. Trudeau does make some good points occasionally, but they are by no means original.

Kevin Trudeaus' book on natural cures has a lot of value!!!!! He is obviously a business man cashing in on repeat business, and attempts to lead you down a path for more business. However, he provides personal development information that people can use. As for me, it provided a catapault that made me more interested in health and self improvement, which eventually led me to this wonderful website - among others.

I have always been a skeptic (which I am improving on), and this type of attitude does not mix well with natural cures. I have experimented with Kevin's and other folk's natural cures on numerous occasions. As for me (a skeptic), I never got the results I was looking for with a few exceptions. The results I did get, however, were more energy and clearer thoughts. But I guess that benefit can come from any suggestions on improving diet and excercise.

What I am getting at, is that his methods and other people's methods similar to his appear to be extremely beneficial to those who truly believe in it and expect it to work, for example...

My mother, who has multiple sclerosis, came to live with me 2 years ago. At this time she gave herself weekly injections (used to be daily), used a cane to walk, very sluggish, had relapses where she could not even walk or go to the bathroom for 2 to 3 days at a time, etc... She whole-heartedly did the natural cures thing, and rarely uses the cane and NEVER gets bed-ridden. She has a spring in her step that I haven't seen in over 5 years.

Anyway, just thought I would try to balance this thread with something positive.

Default My two cents...

Take it however you will.

Kevin Trudeu is an infomercial salesman. "some" of his content 'might' have some value, but overall I would say not. His fraud cases were unrelated i think they came about before his latest

Dr. Andrew Weil -(a real doctor, harvard med, not a diploma mill like "dr" hawkins, or "dr" joe Vitale) was and is one of the leading holistic health advocates - he backs up what he says with research and when he doesn't know he says so - for me he's the balance between healthy skepticism (which means protecting yourself from frauds and things that might actually harm you) and harnessing the incredible power of believe and natural foods and supplements that were brushed aside.
his books are quite readable too.

as for trudeu:
1990: Larceny and prison

Trudeau's legal problems are long-standing. In 1990, he posed as a doctor in order to deposit $80,000 in false checks, and in 1991 he pled guilty to larceny after he had provided false information to obtain credit cards which he used for his own purposes. He spent two years in prison because of this conviction (Choi, 2005). In Natural Cures, Trudeau claims that he has learned from his experience, and is now motivated to help people (as opposed to making money for himself)
