Default Is There Protein in Plant Foods

There was a question about the above. When I mentioned plant foods that were high in protein like beans, nuts and seeds, they then start talking about the omega-6 in plant foods. They talked like there is no significant amounts of omega-6 in meat. Well this article by Mayo Clinic (whoever they are) says that there is, comparing tilapia to meat.

Also tilapia is the 2nd most popular fish in the U.S. since, like the most popular one catfish, it is cheap. Whole Foods has ready to eat tilapia and salmon. Tilapia is $8 per pound and the salmon is $20 per pound. This says that tilapia with omega-3 in it is unhealthy since it has a lot of omega-6 in it. So there is omega-6 in meat and fish, not just plant foods! One guy says it is not fair to compare omega-6 to omega-3 but gives no reason for it in this article.

But the bottom line from another site is that tilapia is good for your wallet but bad for your heart just like McDonalds foods.

Why argue, though, those of us who are veg just know it, and meat eaters just know it too... you could go back and forth for years with this stuff, and no one's gonna change their mind.

Everyday this website gets new people who have never seen this site ever before, unlike us. Many of them may be on the fence and wondering if they should become veg or not. I have a 17 year old friend, Jen. She has been vegan longer than I have.

But there are many people around that age that are wondering about it. Now if they happen to read the above or read that former US President Clinton is vegan or that the 6th largest city in the country, San Diego is having a veg week to a 1) save animals, 2) help the envirentment and 3) for their health, then that will generate more interest in the veg diet. Or maybe they read that the study with 500,000 people shows that meat causes cancer, then they may decide that they do not want to get cancer.

Technically it's red meat and processed meat, which they repeat over and over.

By changing a few words you get urban myths started or at least mis-represent the article.

The article calls for moderation and keeping body weight down as a preventive measure. I eat meat but haven't had either of those variations in a long time.

So does the article say that all things considered, like carb intake, health, fitness etc.., it looks like red and processed meat alone by itself may cause cancer? I wasn't clear on that.

In my book of nutritional values of food it does not have chicken and turkey under "meat". It is under "poultry." The USDA considers pork red meat. Nutrition science considers all mammal meat as red meat. So what meat then is not red? Americans do not eat much frog or rattlesnake.

I am a vegan and bought and ate meat from Trader Joes. It was called pistachio meat. Then there is the meat of fruit. So they are called meat but are not considered to be meat.

So the other meat is white meat. Wikipedia has under white meat poultry. The only other thing mentioned was this:
Given nutritional concerns, meat producers are eager to have their products considered as "white", and the United States National Pork Board has positioned their product as "Pork. The Other White Meat", alongside poultry; however, meats which are red when raw and turn white on cooking, like pork, are categorized by the United States Department of Agriculture as red meats.[2]

And hopefully those same people reading the above, will read everything we have said that completely contradicts everything you put out there

I read a short article by Andrew Weil where he said in the modern diet, there isn't much of anywhere to get omega-3's except from fish. It got me wondering where did people get omega-3's before the modern diet?

The human digestive system has a wonderful way of adapting to anything we throw at it. That's how we have survived and spread across the planet!

Oh I see. Hmm, well that's odd that you mention that. Considering the billion times you've said vegan/vegetarians don't eat meat or similar such phrases using "meat" as a blanket term for red meat, pork, poultry, fish.
Now you want to be specific suddenly?

Never heard you say you don't eat "poultry".
