It's that time again... I used to get sinus infections a lot as a kid. Once I started eating a healthier diet and exercising, I got sick a lot less frequently but I still occasionally come down with something. This time around, all I had to deal with was the annoying post-nasal drip for a couple days. I think I came up with a good concoction to lessen the symptoms and duration of the cold: -Zicam EVERY 3 hours (I swear by this stuff--get the kind with Vitamin C and Echinacea if you're all about the natural crap. You have to be diligent though, every 3 hours, no exceptions.) -Washing out sinuses with a Neti Pot (you can get one of these at CVS, it's basically a little teapot that you use to flush out your sinuses with warm water and a baking soda/salt mixture. Uncomfortable at first, but effective!) -Lots and lots of water. -Mucinex DM. -Hot tea. I'm only on like day 4, and I'm feeling a lot better. No sore throat, no stuffy nose, just the drip-drip and fatigue. Hope these tips help, feel free to share your own! |

Don't shoot me, but I rarely get colds (but like you, Space, I used to get sinus infections as a kid. I also used to get really bad earaches, which is probably why my ears ring perpetually, anymore). Thing is, when I do get a cold, it seriously debilitates me. I lose days. I don't like taking anything, in the way of medications, unless it's either prescribed, or I absolutely have to take something to be able to work. Otherwise, my remedies are fairly simple. Rest. Sweats. Bed. Rest. Sleep. Tissues. Rest. Maybe some aspirin. Rest. Oh, and Gatorade. Lots and lots of Gatorade (it's that electrolyte thing). |

I'm a bit like you Solipsist. I hardly EVER catch a cold or flu, but when I get it oh boy! Do I get it! I can go years without a bug, then get laid low for 2-3 weeks when I do catch one. Anyway, this is helpful: 1 large clove raw garlic 3 times a day (eat this with bread or something, because I promise you, after the first 2 cloves straight, your tongue will be wishing it had never been born!) Lots of fresh air, Gentle exercise like walking, but not too much hard exercise, and don't walk too far or for too long at a time. Echinacea Angustifolia.....that's the thing. Not regular Echinacea Purpurea. That's used for immune support. But the Angustifolia is way stronger for actually fighting something. Take a teaspoon of this at least 3 times a day. During the worst of a cold/flu, take this 4-5 times a day. (Don't take any longer than a week at a time for 1 session) Steam-breathing. Just plain steam, no essential oils added. As much sleep as you can get. |

| Megadoses of vitamin D - 1,000IU per day for every pound of body weight - will wipe out any cold or flu. I have tried this out on 7 or 8 adults and 2 kids - worked every time. I have tried all of the other natural treatments and none of them worked anywhere as well. So, a 150-lb. man would take 150,000IU a day for 3 days. Don't worry about overdosing or toxicity; this dosage isn't even close to being toxic. High potency vitamin D in a dropper bottle is easiest. Health Benefits of Vitamin D |

I would just rest, drink plenty of water, eat nothing, and drink a honey/ lemon juice mixture. The more you rest the faster you will heal, drinking plenty of water will wash out toxins. Fasting will only speed healing because you aren't spending that energy on digestion. Honey, and lemon juice will boost vitamins, enzyms, and lemon will help kill the bug.

I remember whenever my grandmother would get sick, she would boil tea, lemon and onions together and drink it. EWWW... I'll stick with Vitamin C, homemade chicken soup, plenty of water and tons of rest Last edited by 1000cal; 10-05-2010 at 02:02 PM. Reason: mispelled words |

On Monday night I started feeling awful. Itchy eyes, headache, sore throat, drip in nose. I took 2000mg kyolic garlic and echinacea. Tuesday morning, the cold had really caught. Continued with 2000mg garlic and echinacea, along with 1000mg Vitamin C and 2000mg olive leaf extract with each meal, plus lots of sleep. Today, Wednesday, less than 36 hours after symptoms started emerging, I feel pretty good. Not perfect, but I clearly fought off something quite nasty and have been happily up and about and working. I think that's quite good going. |

| A half gallon of milk per day is quite a lot. If it were raw milk I imagine that there would not quite be the same issue.Pasteurization kills the enzymes that allow us to digest milk easily.

For the most part--I do not get colds. I feel this is more in my control now that I am knowledgeable about eating a healthy diet. Although I eat a high raw, mostly vegan diet, I am not perfect, nor to I strive to be a purist. However within the range of not being pure, if I cross a certain threshold--I will pay for it! After a long streak of not being sick--I was sick twice in the last month! In each case I over-indulged in crappy foods, and went and exercised at the gym. All recipes for getting sick! I lowered my immune system by eat bad foods and working out and I increased my exposure by working out at the gym. I am not saying that working out at the gym is a bad thing--ordinarily that would not be a problem. But I had already lowered my immune system by eating junk foods in a large enough quantity that it crossed my threshold. The good news is that I do not remain sick for long because I know how to revert back to healthy eating quickly. I am juicing a lot more now and cutting back on cooked foods. No junk food allowed. Also--I cannot recommend strongly enough how useful a nasal flushing regimen is in preventing and shortening the length of a cold. Here is how to get started: Benefits of a Nose Flush Regimen: How to Get Started I know netipot was mentioned earlier in this thread, but I prefer the bottle. Both work if you use them!!! |

Heard of it? It's the stuff the worker bees give the queen when she's going to lay eggs. I used to get bronchitis twice a year, ever year: when it got cold then when it got hot. Since I started taking a royal jelly, I not only have gotten rid of bronchitis, but I haven't even gotten a cold. Powerful stuff. |

People used to get argyria from silver nitrate more so than from colloidal silver (it used to be used for several ailments). Very few get it from colloidal silver unless they make their own and have megadoses daily Colloidal silver is great for bacterial infections, and while I haven't heard about it's use for viruses, I guess it could work for them too. |
