You have to see how young this man looks! Raw Foodist Celebrates 109th Birthday By ALEXIS VANCE FOX 10 News MESA, Ariz. - On August 17, Bernando LaPallo turned 109 years old! This Mesa resident lives on his own, still drives and walks around just fine - it's incredible, so I asked him to share some of his secrets. Bernando eats primarily raw fruits, veggies and fish. Meat is a treat only once a year. "This is my lifesaver, it keeps me alive..superfood..plus I take it everyday since 1979 - I never miss." said LaPallo. He believes his clean lifestyle is why he's still alive. "Well, I don't think I know that eating it's what you eat, you've heard people say you are what you eat, well you are." Bernando reads daily, walks a mile and a half as soon as he gets up and his favorite product to use on his skin is olive oil. Extra virgin olive oil is an age old secret he's practiced for years. His faith is his foundation and his father his role model. At 109, he's a popular man. He consults people who are trying to change their life for the better and makes speeches around the country. He's written one book, Age Less and Live More and is working on a second. His phone never stops ringing. "I get calls from all over..Miami, Italy..I'm on TV in South America." I asked him if he thinks about his final days. "I never gave dying any though. I still don't. I know I've got to die. Everybody dies." said Bernando. So what's next for a man who's lived over a century? He wants to open a restaurant here in the valley with raw foods on one side and healthy American food on the other. But on his birthday, he's going to take a break from his busy days and celebrate another year of life. |

Or he is just another opportunistic liar capitalizing on his luck at living a long time. Unless you trail him for months 24/7 you never really know what the truth is as far as food consumption. Ritz crackers - nice. I wonder if Kraft Foods pays him? |

If you look at his website and watching the videos, you'll find out more information. He was interviewed by others in the raw community. He's probably about 70% raw. His son-in-law is the one that recommended he write the book. Part of his diet: organic fruit and fresh orange juice with a green powder supplement. Cooked Fish-3x wk. He has a big family so the crackers could be for anyone. He walks great (mile and a half daily), has all his original teeth, still drives, and doesn’t wear a hearing aid. He has hardly any wrinkles and his black hair has just specks of gray. |

| Eating raw fish IS eating sushi. Well, sashimi at least. And raw meat tastes no worse or better then cooked meat. It's all in the mind, and most people can't handle the thought of raw meat, and there for it will always taste bad to them. Give me a fresh raw aged steak any day.

Seriously who even cares if he's not 100% raw? He's a great example of healthy living, period. So much unnecessary negativity. There was ONE positive comment to this. I'm not going to waste my time on this thread so you can enjoy staying in that space without me. |

Point is, this person has lived a long and healthy life, while eating lots of raw fruits and vegetables. Why 70% is not considered raw foodist? It is MUCH healthier diet, than most people eat. It just confirms my theory that what you eat 80% of the time is much more important than what makes up 20% of it. Obviously, there are some other factors going on for his health and longevity, but wow, the potential of such a life is worth celebrating!!!

It's not all about raw food, it's about healthy food. It just so happens that it's easier to eat healthy when your food is raw. Or at least if your food is raw before it gets in your hands. Last edited by russianrocket; 09-03-2010 at 05:04 PM.

Actually, I read another article the other day on yahoo about the longest living guy in the U.S.A. at the time. He said that he loved raw fruits and vegetables. In fact, president gave him a fruit basket for a gift. Wish I could dig it up. Plus, I've seen people looking glowing and healthy, and I never thought that my acne could clear up, but it did on raw. That's more than enough evidence for me As a personal question, russianrocket, you eat raw animal products, is that right? Or do you eat some cooked too? Just curious cause I noticed that after I eat some cooked meat, my body odor gets really unpleasant. How's your body odor with raw meat?
