Default Polyphasic Sleep for Mr Indiscipline

(DAY 1) Hello forumites. I must admit to feeling like I have stumbled upon a treasure trove of life enhancing info. This site came to my attention because I was thinking about what I could do with more time per day, assuming any sleep reducing plan was even possible let alone viable. After reading Steve's excellent blog, I have decided that I am going to dive in and test the polyphasic waters for myself. As the heading for this thread indicates, I am a man with truly awful self discipline! You know the kind, I am gonna start so and so from tomorrow morning!? The initial good intent always goes by the wayside and to be honest I am not sure why I have such inability to stick to any task requiring more than a modicum of dedication. Today is my first day attempting this plan and to try and bring about sleep quickly in my first nap I decided to cut short the previous nights sleep from the usual 8 hours+ to just 4 hours. I am due to take my first official nap inside the next 2 hours so rather than keep updating after every nap I will instead focus on staying awake and all being well log back in tomorrow morning and spill the beans on my progress. Onwards and upwards, hopefully

If you want more time during the day by reducing sleep, try biphasic sleep first. It's much easier to adapt to and maintain, while still possibly giving you an extra hour per day.

Also, I've noticed that people who study sleep professionally generally don't approve of polyphasic sleep, while they often do encourage biphasic sleep.
