Default What is it about meat/dairy that gives you the heavy feeling?

You guys know what I'm talking about. That really heavy feeling you get after you wolf down a frozen pizza. The one that leaves you immobile for at least an hour. I want to avoid this feeling like the plague, because it makes me really inefficient and I'm wondering what is it in meat/dairy that does it to you? Is it the fat, cholesterol, or something else?

Thanks a ton

Pizza is loaded with damaged vegetable oil/oxidized cholesterol from the meat, Acrylamide ( baked caborhydrate ), commercial cheese, flour ( refined carb -> high blood sugar ), processed meat and etc. It basically contains all the human made poison (from plant and animal based ) designed to destroy your body system.

Eat non-overcooked/non fried "real food" ( Vegetables, fruit, whole grains, grass fed animal food, deep sea fish ) and exercise everyday you would be fine.

Exercise = the newly approved drug to fight off chronic diseases

In response to dairy and meat the body creates mucous. That's the heavy feeling you're having. There's nothing wrong with pizza or mucous, but maybe cutting down your intake at one sitting would be gentler on your system. Experiment and see what happens.

The idea that Milk causes mucous is disputable with the double blind studies conducted but there are many other reasons to avoid pasteurized milk ( just like you would do with processed "plant-based" food such as "vegetarian" pizza )

http://www.mercola.com/2004/aug/28/milk_mucus.htm

Quote:
Despite these beliefs that have persisted over the years, researchers stated there hasn't been any proven correlation between drinking milk and excess mucus production. Researchers backed up their claims by performing several double-blind studies that evaluated the mucus production in different people after they drank either a glass of milk or a placebo that tasted like milk. They didn't discover any differences in mucus production in either of the groups.

Erock if it's bloating and/or tiredness and slugishness you're experiencing it's more likely the carbs. Pizza bases contain a huge quantity of refined carbohydrates, more than I'd eat in a week

I don't think it's the meat - I don't feel bloated after eating a piece of meat.

But I would feel bloated after a pizza, too, especially a frozen one. Thats why I usually only eat half a pizza at most.

I'd say it's the carbohydrates and the pure amout of food knocking you out. Pizza (at least around here) does not contain much meat anyway.

I'd recommend: Eat slower, eat less, eat more often, so you won't get so hungry you wolf more food down than you need in one session.

After going hungry for some time it's tough not to go on a eating binge. And in an eating binge you probably always eat more than you need, and overeating makes you sleepy.

(about frozen food, I remember somewhere that frozen food does not contain and 'chi' anymore or something, so maybe this adds to the effect, too? I dunno any details what exactly this was about, though.)

Love you!

One glass? Maybe not... But my personal experience:

Several years ago, by unfortunate course of events, I was forced to live on dairy products for a few days. It turned me into a mucus production machine. I coughed and snuffled out inordinate amounts of mucoidal gunk for the entire week afterwards. I won't even mention how badly I broke out with acne because that would have been a horror story.

So, basically, overdoing dairy might be bad.

Meat and dairy aside for the moment...I think the issue here is "what is it about eating a frozen pizza that gives the heavy feeling?"

Overconsumption of calories in general and carbohydrates in specific is enough to make one feel lethargic and loggy...both physically and mentally.

My $.02 worth

Yeah thanks for the responses. Right now I'm working on eliminating soda, but after that I plan on conquering my diet in general. Basically, I want a lot of energy and to feel light and airy all the time verses the slow and immobile I get after eating a lot of meat/cheese.

Quiting Soda is an important step. If you are struggling with weight problem, then you need another powerful drug to make you feel better even faster - it's " daily exercise " Good luck on your feel good quest !

Yeah actually I don't have a weight problem. I play a lot of tennis, so I need a lot of calories, but I'm trying to eat a lot in a healthy way. I'd like to be able to feel full and have a lot of endurance, without the immobility I was talking about.

Thanks

The good thing about your problem is: since you feel full directly after eating you can fuzz around and nearly immediately see what happens.

For example you could try and eat bread instead of the pizza until you are full, to see if it has the same effect.
Then you could try pure meat.
Then salad.
Then Cheese.
Try fresh products compared to frozen ones.

You'll be able to check out most foodgroups in a few days to weeks, and you'll know for sure what foodstuff is good for *you*.

I did something like that last year: since so many people insisted fresh salad is healthy and good, I bought fresh salad stuff in a farmers market once a week and ate two days from this. Funny thing though, after this I always felt full, overstuffed, and my stomach had the nagging feeling something was missing. So I kept experimenting what to use for salad, until I accepted that pure salad is just not my kind of food. After eating it I always felt stuffed, but still had a craving for more to eat - for me a sure sign there was some important stuff missing in my diet.
So I changed my diet back to more different food groups, salad being only one of many, and am happy again. I might feel full sometimes, but usually have more energy after eating than before. And I eat a lot of dairy and meat. And cookies

have fun experimenting!
