Hi all, Need some help and guidance. I am a vegetarian & have decided to start having Raw Food, once a day , 5 days a week. Context of doing this: Health, Consciousness, increased mental agility. ...may be turn this into a business we (me & my brother) open raw food restaurant which produces lots of value (healthy living). Slowly I want to transition into 90% Raw food if I see value in it while I attempt consuming raw food as trial. My previous attempt at this ended just in 2 days as I jumped into it by mixing diced vegetables and green, dicing them & mixing them together and eating them. Why it ended in 2 days: Craving for usual cooked food, taste did not appeal to make me go for it, resulted in headache, anger (may be detox), hunger within 2 hrs of eating raw food Here is my request: * Provide me recipes which can be prepared in half n hour to 45 minutes ( I am a newbie to raw food trial ..pls keep that in mind). We are going to try them out in our RawFood Trial. ...if there is some other post or thread which you think would be of help pls provide that too. * I request you to provide me inputs (actionable steps) on how to slowly transition into raw food; point me to ebooks, books for raw food newbies; Thanks -pras Last edited by pras; 08-09-2010 at 07:01 AM. I love Ani Phyo. The recipes from her book Ani's Raw Food Kitchen are quick and easy and the majority don't require a dehydrator. She has a newer book out, Ani's Raw Food Essentials, and it is lovely as well, but more of the recipes use a dehydrator. Essentials does have a great selection of 'basic' recipes that give you a good springboard for creating dishes to your own taste! Jennifer Cornbleet has a great book for those new to raw, Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 People. No dehydrator required. The recipes are fast and easy to prepare and there is a nice selection of lunch and dinner menus. Both Ani and Jennifer have raw food videos on YouTube. Check out Kevin and Annemarie Gianni too! They also have a bunch of raw recipe videos. |

Here is the largest list of raw food recipes: vegan recipes and vegetarian recipes - living and raw - uncooked! Transitioning is different for everyone depending on what you eat. It sounds like you got some real bad stuff in your diet not just healthy cooked food. This page on curing depression tells about a group that found that it is just as effective to eat 85% raw foods and 15% healthy cooked food, but none of that bad stuff. It lists all the stuff that is no good. |

I agree with aabbcc's recommendations of raw resources and ginkgo's advice, that it depends what you like to eat. Raw food is not that different from cooked food, in the sense that all people have different tastes, preferences, and beliefs in what is most healthful. I mean, it could be as simple as grabbing some peaches and eating until you feel full. That was my latest meal with some dried mango cheeks for "dessert." Meal before that, I really enjoyed save-the-tuna salad, but not everyone likes fishy tastes. Just eat foods you feel drawn to (as opposed to having unhealthy cravings for).

| That sounds yummy! I would just add carrot ribbons that you can make with veggie peeler or just julienne sliced carrots. I made a similar dish the other day, only with some raw sunflower pate and wrapped in a collard green. Awesome!

My favourite meal right now is corn salad. Simply cut some corn off the cob and mix with chopped tomato or red pepper, cucumber, green onion, and fresh dill. Add some sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste, if you like, and serve on a bed of mixed greens. Very light, but quite filling. I also like other salads such as Waldorf salad [try this with fresh peaches instead of apples!], carrot salad, mixed sprouts, or marinated tomatoes served atop mixed greens. I tend to prefer very simple raw dishes. I don't dehydrate. I like my food fresh and juicy! |

I would suggest that you added a lot of blended meals that include greens to your diet because they are very good for you and the preparation is fast. Although it is ideal to have a high speed blender, a regular blender works fine. Here is an article I wrote on how to get started making green smoothies: My Favorite Green Smoothie Recipe Here is a link to a review of Jordan Maerin's Raw Foods for Busy people. One of great things about this book is that for each recipe chapter she starts with the easiest recipes and ends with the most complex: Book Review: Raw Foods for Busy People: Simple and Machine Free Recipes for Every Day–by Jordan Maerin |
