I got a mailing from a medical doctor (Sears) that says: "Finally... Aerobics is Dead [I didn't even know that it was sick] The biggest mistake of the 1980s is over and done with.... Jumping aroud for 45 minutes to an hour won't boost your lung capicity, it won't strengthen your heart-- it won't even help you lose weight. [It is good for circulation]"So he wants me to send him $35.95 + $6.95 S & H ($42.90) for the book he wrote about PACE. But I see that Amazon.com has it for $16.47. Pace: The 12-Minute Fitness Revolution: Al Sears M.D.: Books But then I read on the above that it is just like HIIT. HIIT is like 20 seconds of all out exercise and then resting for 10 seconds and repeating it. This video suggests (with a study done) 8 seconds then 12 seconds rest. YouTube - Fat-Burning Cardio: High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) The Amazon site says that the PACE book is very good at explaining the scientific studies about why this is better than cardio (aerobics). These are chosen as the 4 best ones on HIIT: HIIT Videos Here is HIIT with weights where you can also build muscle: YouTube - high intensity interval training workouts Last edited by ginkgo; 08-03-2010 at 05:57 PM. |

could also be Fartlek training (a type of interval training), but if you are resting rather than changing speed it would just be interval training. Interval training (as it pertains to cardio) has the possibility of giving greater cardio benefits than continuous training due to the higher intensity it can be performed at (depending on fitness level and time desired for each work/rest interval) - however it also takes longer recovery times as well. Continuous cardio still has its place for those needing a lower intensity in order to reach benefits. E.g. increased circulation, lung capacity annd heart etc. Personally I wouldn't be paying money for a book that gives dubious claims when there is plenty of info around.. |

I just used 6 months of "jumping around for 45 min" to lower my resting HR 25 points, lower BP 50 and 30 points respectively and drop 55 lbs. Maybe that was all just from dieting and the cardio didn't actually do anything. I can't say for sure, however I highly doubt that. Nutritional advice is just like new supplements. New stuff comes out all the time with outrageous claims of how it's the best new thing. Some of those things are actually the best new thing. Most are not. All you can do is wait while people test it out over a few years then you get a pretty good picture of whats what. Dr Sears "Zone" lifestyle eating is well tested by now and is useful if you're willing to put the effort in. For supplements a few like, creatine, 1-AD (now illegal) and that thermogenic stack in Xenadrine actually worked like advertised. |

Note if you say that you are a billionaire, you are not lying. You are exxagerating. The offer of riches was enough to cause the father of Chelsea Clinton's new husband to commit fraud. He was released from federal prison in 2008 and is on probation now. The offer of riches was enough to cause the governor of Illinois to break the law. | |

I'd suggest doing sprints instead of buying that hyped crap. Sprints are quite possibly the best HIIT exercise for your entire body. Just run as fast as you can for about 200 meters, rest, rinse and repeat.

I've been doing HIIT for a while (the 20 s sprint, 10 second rest 8X variation), and something I can say about it is: With jogging I sometimes get aches and stuff during and after I run. I also sometimes get kindof, a bad feeling in my stomach, or a burn in my throat. I can't remember having experienced much of this while I'm doing HIIT, or in the aftermath of it. I only warm up for perhaps 2 minutes before I start with the high intensity stuff, and I don't think I've ever gotten cramps or anything. |

| Actually on one of those videos on my post the guy is outside and has no treadmill, and he sprints and goes nowhere. He is tied to a tree by elastic. I never saw that before. If is kind of funny.
