I'm a male 5'10" 135 pounds and if I lie on my back and stretch out fully, my stomach area goes down like crazy and my ribs and hip bones stick out in front almost like I have nothing there between my bones Just the way I'm built Also look at this guy Raw-Vegan Transition Story - Shannon "The Braveheart" Notice on the second picture from the bottom, his ribs stick out a lot, its just his body structure But its hard to make a judgment about you without pics, or pics of people that look the same Besides, everyone likes to say they eat healthy, but that doesn't really mean anything That's like me saying I'm a good person Personally I don't think 110 pounds at 5' 5" is "very skinny" buuuut like i said "this thread is worthless without pics" |

Mine did, too, when I was a teenager. I ate like a horse, but you could still count my ribs when I wore a bathing suit, and no one would let me sit on their laps because my butt was so bony. Around 18 or so, I softened up. Still very slender, but no longer emaciated-looking. I didn't change my eating or activity level; I suspect the change was mostly hormonal.

Plenty of people are "underweight" but still healthy. Scales for normal weight are sort of arbitrary and can't take into consideration every body type and size. There are people who have very large builds who are "overweight" but who don't have too much fat, and there are some people who are "underweight" who eat healthy diets, and who are perfectly healthy. I had a friend who was 5'7" in high school and she weighed about 38kg (errm about 84 pounds) when she was 15-16!! Was she anorexic? No! (But boy did she get a lot of crap about her weight!!) She ate perfectly normally, she just had a naturally lean, skinny build. Oh, and guys liked her too... many didn't care about her size My sister in law looks as if she's anorexic (no idea what her weight is though, but she'd be under 40kg for sure and she's about 5'4" or maybe 5'5") and she eats normally too. (She also had two perfectly healthy babies, who were an average weight and size). People are all different! You are only 16, too, so you'll probably gain a bit of weight as you get older. |

Some people have a naturally high metabolism. In that when they eat more, their metabolism actually speeds up to burn more calories rather than store it as bodyfat. I know a skinny guy who weighs around 150 lbs and needs to eat around 7000 calories to gain some weight for building muscle. While you have guys like me who can look at food and gain weight :P I´m 200 lbs and have to restrict myself to eating 2500 calories. If I remember correctly, thyorid is the hormone that controls metabolism. So when you eat more, you produce more thyorid. While the 2/3 of the rest of the humans basically produce the same amount. You can google "ectomorphs" to understand it better. It´s a body type. And whatever crap you receive from people, keep in mind - were just jealous of your low bodyfat It could also be that your pelvic bone is tilted forward. It´s basically a bad posture that can be fixed. If you have tight hamstrings, a weak ass and lower back, the pelvic bone will tilt forward to compensate for these weaknesses. I think.. something like that. Last edited by lifeforce; 06-11-2010 at 04:50 PM. |

I agree with everyone else. Everyone has a different body shape, metabolism, etc. Instead of asking yourself if guy would find your hipbones unattractive instead try to ask "Do I find my hipbones attractive/unattractive??" Love your own body first, worry about what other people think second (if you want to at all Oh and I'm 5'5 about 120lbs and have hipbones that don't stick out but are definitely noticeable. |

Hi staygolden. At 5'5 and 110 lbs, personally, I think it's not that bad. I'm a tall and thin person (I think I'm even less than 100 lbs again) myself, and it doesn't bother me (anymore) about what others will say. I'm quite bony (potruding wrists and collarbones, long fingers and arms) but that's fine. Look at the bright side--you can always eat whatever you want, not being limited. Some people say that out of envy, awe or admiration, since maybe they can't achieve your hyperthinnness (if there's a word for that), despite their constant diet and exercise. I've since learned how to deal with that, and at yoru age, I can understand that you're still quite vulnerable to criticism. But whatever, at least you can still be a model! LOL |
