Default Consistency

Hello:

I do not have a particular diet plan, but I always try to eat as healthy as possible, the right quantities, and right amount of times per day, which are 5 or 6 balanced meals, my gym routine is working great, have been all consistent, but my eating habits sometimes get messy, then i feel terrible as if I am spoiling me progress.

For example the whole week I eat great, then the weekend comes about and I end up overeating and perhaps having alcohol, and when I find myself looking on the mirror it feels as if I am in maintenance mode than really going forward...

You experts on nutrition and fatloss, what should I do? Should I consider pplying one cheat meal per week? or something that could just kill anxiety? or there are other options?

Thanks

Ok, I'm not an expert on nutrition and fatloss but...

Do your eating habits get messy only during the weekend?
How come your able to stick to your plan during the week and what happens or in which situations do you feel like overeating (is it stress, boredom etc)?

To me, a cheat meal per week sounds like a good idea.
Depending on how often your eating habits get messy, in a way, you already do that when you overeat but probably because you think you shouldn't, you end up eating much more...

I hope someone gives you a better solution

It is most common for it to happen during the weekends, but in this case it happened yesterday as I was anxious about eating a pleasurable meal, I just needed to overeat, so basically when I have like 3 or 4 days eating great, I become anxious and crave... But the point is that by doing that I am breaking consistency.

If you get cravings after 3 or 4 days then maybe it would be a good thing to introduce a cheat day per week.
Throw out all ''junk/bad'' food. Buy and stock up with healthier foods (fruits/vegetables etc) at home so in case you get cravings you have only these options to choose from (I know you can still go out and buy things but I know I'm, more often than not, too lazy to do that).

You say you get anxious about eating a pleasurable meal, are your meals monotonous? Maybe you could look up some other recipes.

If you don't have a particular diet plan, how about coming up with one? If you plan what you'll eat let's say every day this week, you don't find yourself thinking too much about it.

Could there be also something else behind this need to overeat?

Alcohol puts on weight. So does overeating. If you want to have one cheat meal a week, go for it. But don't let it turn into a cheat day or cheat weekend. Then you'll ruin much of your progress and have to start again at square one.

Keep yourself on the right track as much as possible and don't succumb to temptations that you'll only regret later. Keep up the consistency and don't let the bad meals creep in there as much

When you take mind altering drugs then you no longer control your own life. Alcohol is a mind altering drug that you take to lose control of yourself. It is better to find yourself than to lose yourself. Cocaine is not fattenng like alcohol and will help you lose weight. But it is illegal and a mind altering drug that was used by Thomas Edison, the Pople, The U.S. president and thousands of MDs.

A woman here was a restaurant owner and people picketed her restaurant until she sold it. The reason was that she was driving a car without a license. She lost it from driving drunk. She hit a 15 year old girl crossing the street so hard that the girl flew over 20 feet. She was dead before she hit the ground. They picked her up with a shovel. Other than alcohol this woman was a good citizen.

Yes, I would say definitely add a cheat meal, or up your cals for one to two days a week. This is a process, & depending on what & how you were eating before, no one person can just change on a dime. Maybe a very small fraction.

Try not to be so strict with yourself. If you're working on eliminating the alcohol you could always allow yourself some a few times a week. Such as a glass 2-3 times a week, instead of going bonkers with it on the weekend.

If you make a choice, stick with it, no regrets, you know the outcomes by now, you know what it takes to get to your goals.

Maybe you feel like something from within is holding you back from making those gains, & maybe you can re-evaluate why you're doing this?

Are you allowing yourself a food that you really enjoy during the days that you're on target? That also really helps.

Also try not to think of it as starting over again from square one as someone suggested, just think of it as continuing, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, & keep going, because that is EXACTLY what it is, Remember just how far you've come!!

Be Well!

You sound like you were trying to reach some specific goal with your healthy diet in the near future, but you don't write about being overweight, feeling tired all the time, etc, etc...

Maybe you should just let go of the expectation that something great is going to happen soon. You eat a healthy diet to live a long and healthy life, without all kinds of diseases over the age of 60, and 6 healthy days a week along with your regular exercise is a very promising way to make it work. Remember, you do that to MAINTAIN something, not to ACHIEVE (unless you're really trying to lose a lot of weight, in that case ignore my posting ).

Don't worry so much about a not-so-healthy-weekend. I'm sure it's still much better than most other people's everyday-diet .

Yep I tend to get careless during the weekends; I know what a sin I am comitting but in order to enjoy the pleasure of the moment I say to meself what tha heck, I'll worry about it tomorrow... as a Scarlett O'Hara per se LoL... But this last weekend I hit rock bottom, I had a full cheat weekend and I am now on target once again, I'll challenge myself this upcoming weekend, no cheat meal, no cheat day... If I can go ahead and surpass the challenge, the hardest job is done, then on monday I have no trouble whatsoever...

Thank you all for the wonderful pieces of advice., up to this moment.
