Many people skip breakfast. I myself have skipped it several times due to lack of time or simply because I don’t feel like eating. Yet, breakfast is something that we should all have time for. It gives us energy and is good for weight control. My breakfast is usually a fruit smoothie that I prepare the night before. I use fresh fruits, whole grain cereals and rice milk. So what’s your breakfast? |

Food does not give you energy. Sleep gives you energy. Fasters have proven this. On the 10th day of a pubic (I mean public) fast, the faster raced a reporter in running and the faster won. When the earth was about to conquered by the Borg, Captain Picard said "Sleep, Data, sleep." |

A big green smoothie (these days it's usually spinach, banana, kiwi and flax), a bowl of muesli with almond milk or hazelnut milk, and a lot of water. I drink a lot of fluids. I don't think I've ever skipped a single breakfast in my life! |

I live in China. I am not Chinese. I like short sentences. I feel this post could take a silly turn. Ahem. For breakfast here I normally have a variant of *drumroll*: - soggy rice porridge with pickled vegetables - homemade tomato sandwiches with far too much mayo ( I found real mayo recently and haven't been able to control myself!) - soy milk - whatever fruit is on the go (oranges, pomelos, apples, bananas, mangoes, etc.) - steamed buns (mantou to those of you in the know) - sweet dumplings - always half a lemon in water (lots of water) - a good healthy dose of fresh air (weather and smog pending) |

I love freshly made celery juice (from 600g of celery) blended with one pineapple and one or two mangoes Another favorite of mine are carrots + apples + one orange and juice from one lemon, blended. |

In my teenage years I'd have rather been late to school than skip breakfast, and did so a few times (just like I'd have rather show up for an exam without studying than pull an all-nighter, my body has this nice, firm way of setting its priorities straight). Now I have taken the habit to make time for it in the mornings.

I've been moving away from the having to keep food in my stomach all day problem, thanks to repeated fasting, and new ways of eating. Still working on it. Going bonkers as soon as the stomach has no food in it, or doesn't feel filled anymore, is a sign that eating should cease. I should know because all my life I just eat eat eat eat and what did it do for me? Right made me have to do a bunch of fasting and learning how to eat all over again because i screwed up my body Hope you could translate my horrible English |

I don't do juice or smoothies because either contain more empty carbs than whole fruit (as soon as you juice, the nutrients start to break down - the longer you leave it and the more you juice, the more nutrients you lose).

My breakfast choices are not the best. Not bad, but not the best. Mainly because I'm not a morning person and I wake up at the last possible minute --- leaving me with very little time to make anything. I DO make it a point to eat something, though. During the week, I either have a breakfast smoothie or a bagel + cream cheese. During the weekend I might have some cheesy eggs + bread or grits + breakfast sausages. Sometimes I throw in a banana here and there. I'm trying to revamp this and introduce more healthy variety into my morning meals, especially eating more protein during the weekdays and more fruits in general. |

Great topic this. ANyone have any great ideas on: 1. What is a good breakfast to take to work to eat at your desk? (I find this easier to do than eat at home in the morning) 2. What breakfasts fit above and can be rotated e.g. I get bored easily. I'm currently eating a really yummy cereal, but I know in a couple of weeks i"ll get bored by that. Do you have a "rotation" of easily transportable breakfasts that you take that are filling and will last me until lunchtime (pretty much)? I want to eat breakfast, just seem bereft of ideas of what to have Cheers, Jenny. |

I've skipped breakfast my whole life until 2 weeks ago when I started a mainly fruit and vegetable diet so now I have fruit and yoghurt. I've lost half a stone in 10 days and the fat has simply disappeared. Now if I can only motivate myself to do some exercise I'll be in fabulous shape. |

1. The best way breakfast at your desk to eat are those you prepare in advance. I prepare a lot of cooked and seasoned meat, many types of beans, veggies, and lentils. I just pack them in a container, throw them in a microwave and just start eating after they are hot. If you like eggs and don't want to clean up, you can microwave eggology (egg whites) for 3 minutes with the rest of your stuff. I would recommend doing them separately so he eggs cook fast. 2. Just mix and match a bunch of different stuff. If you prepare ahead of time you can have a ton of different stuff and not get bored. Check out my list, it is filled with slow carbs, proteins and veggies. Quote:

| "Food is the primary source of energy and physical power in the human body, but not all food eaten is converted into usable energy. In fact, only about 85 percent or less of the energy in food is available after digestion. Food energy is most commonly measured in units called "food calories." One food calorie (1 kcal) is equivalent to the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of 1 kg of water 1 degree Celsius. Different types of food hold different amounts of energy. Per gram, fats contain 9 kcal, carbohydrates contain 4 kcal and proteins about 3 kcal." How Does the Food You Eat Supply You With Energy? | eHow.com |

I never skip breakfast either. I get up around 5.30 and by 6.30 I feel like I'm starving. But I don't usually eat huge breakfasts on weekdays. My two normal ones are either - two boiled eggs or - a smoothie with one banana, a cup of blueberries, a little yoghurt and some flaxseed oil. Sometimes some spinach or rocket. Usually I have a cup of tea or herbal tea too. Sometimes I'll have a slice of wholegrain toast with either mashed banana and organic peanut butter, or avocado and sliced tomato instead. This is maybe one week in a month when I have a loaf of bread. On weekends, I might prepare a more elaborate breakfast, because I love to cook. But if I have a big breakfast, I usually don't need lunch. |
