I think when I'm sitting at my PC I have really bad posture because I slouch and my back is beginning to hurt when I bend down to pick things up. Does anyone have any tips to help me correct it? I don't know where to start |

Do you exercise? If not, it might be a good idea to start This is what I've come up with a google search, I've tried some of the exercises they mention and they helped,..google a bit more and try it out, see what works for you and what you can do at home. One of the suggestions I was given was to buy one of those big exercise balls and use it instead of an office chair at the computer. Most people have to engage their stomach and back muscles and sit up straight to be able to balance to sit on the ball.

I used to exercise a lot. Core muscles, as you say. I gradually stopped having found putting myself through intense training causes me to have deep painful but quick headaches. My GP said I had a trapped nerve and it would eventually go away (it has now I believe). I am starting again thank you for the insight.

I know, I know... not exactly "fun" and relaxing, but it will keep you standing up straight all day instead of slouching forward all day. | |

This might sound a bit too obvious but what if you consciously keep track of your posture while your sitting! Keep a straight back, shoulders back...and every hour or so, take a 5 minute break, do some stretches, roll your head around, roll your wrists and ankles, touch your toes, close your eyes for a minute and then get back to it...refreshed.

It is suggested that everyone sitting for an hour should get up and walk around for a few minutes. Also exercise is good, like yoga. The purpose of yoga is to become one with the universe. 'Yoga' means 'union'. So they do hours of sitting meditation a day. But that is bad for health so they make up for it with the yoga postures known as hatha yoga. The meditation is known as raja yoga (king of yoga). The monks and priests in the Shaolin Temples also did hours of meditation a day. But they did martial arts to keep their body fit and healthy. The bible does not talk about Jesus from between a little kid and a 30 year old. So books say that he went to India and learned yoga to become one with the universe. For pinched nerves or neck or back problems there are chiropractors that use an advanced method called NUCCA. See this site for more on this. To do it they need a lot of x-rays of the neck. Then they need to figure out the right vectors. Then they need to apply them. My chiropractor says that he used it on an 8 year old boy and his Torette's Syndrome was cured. His doctor said that it is obviously a fluke (coincidence). But my chiropractor has only had one case so has no idea on how it would do with 10 people. But after 5 months, the boy was sledding and crashed his head into something and it came back. So the chiropractor told the mother to bring him in for another fluke to happen. Also this method has worked on people with suicide disease (trigeminal neuralgia). One guy got this disease right after a dental procedure. See trigemianal nerve picture on site above in yellow. "Its nickname is 'the suicide disease' [citation needed] because it causes one of the most severe pains that a human being can experience." Last edited by ginkgo; 01-02-2010 at 06:27 AM. |

here is a lifetime of ballet re-iterations: imagine the top of your head is attached to a string which goes in a straight line through your body to the bottom of your pelvis. then imagine someone is standing on your roof, tugging that string up. downward dog is good for posture too. take an ashtanga yoga class for personal-adjustment things, because it can be a very deceptively simple posture that is easily done without proper alignment. when walking its good to visualize your pelvis as a bowl full of water. Then your goal is to keep the bowl level, to prevent the water spilling out from the back or front. (this keeps your belly from protruding out, and your bum from popping) like this: http://www.courses.vcu.edu/DANC291-0...0alignment.jpg wow just repeating this and my posture is better. Amazing advice here already. I actually started to get the same problem, I have always been fit and healthy but since working on my site all day every day I have noticed my posture has changed and I get back ache when sitting at the computer. This happened in only 2 weeks! Unbelievable! I started to exercise every day again (after taking a 2 week break from exercise) and stretched off my hamstrings by lying on the floor and pulling my leg towards me with a band attached to my foot, this helped dramatically! But by far the best thing was to do a good run every day and stretch off afterwards. Now my back still feels uncomfortable, but I am doing core strengthening exercises to try to make my abs stronger again. Also get a good computer chair, that is really important. It really is amazing how the human body can just put itself out of shape in just a few weeks! |

Learn to become more "aware" of your body's position. How we hold ourself is often a result of our phsychological state (how we are feeling). If a person slouches they "feel" like a slouch When you find yourself in a posture you don't like think about how you "feel." Then replace your slouchy feelings with proud, confident feelings. Also, visualizing a string being pulled straight up attached to the top of your head and keeping in mind that your shoulders should be pulled back are simple techniques to start to improve your posture. |
