| Hi All, Over the last couple of months I have been part of a discussion on increasing water intake on another forum (of which I am a moderator) - Drinking water I thought that I would share with you a little of what we discussed and some of my views from an article that I have recently published. "A while back a colleague kept on to me about drinking more water. At first this barrage of advice went in one ear and out of the other. At that time I just hadn’t realised what my modern day lifestyle was doing to my body and my brain. The difference between a well hydrated and a dehydrated body and brain are phenomenal and looking into this further will soon have you reaching for the water bottle to take your next sip. For those of you that are not drinking enough water, I wanted to list a few of the benefits that you would see if you started to increase your fluid intake right now. 1. Increased concentration! I noticed this almost immediately. Within a day or two, the increase in my productivity was through the roof and my business certainly enjoyed that boost! Drinking the right amount of water is vital to get full functionality from your brain. This most important organ is made up of 80% water, this needs to be topped up in order to maintain a good working level. See it as fuel for the brain – just like your car you need to give your brain that regular fill-up too! 2. It can help you shed a few pounds. Drinking water has long been connected with weight loss and this is due to a few reasons. The main one being that it allows your body to properly regulate your hunger. Sometimes those little hunger pangs that we get is actually thirst! So by first of all dealing with that thirst, you can begin to put a lid on that hunger! Increasing your water intake also allows all of your body’s organs to work to full capacity, making it easier to burn fat and digest food. So by adding a few pints (of water!) you could lose a few pounds! 3. It works to boost your energy levels. Unlike caffeine enriched energy drinks, water does all the right things to give you most of the energy that you need. Along with a healthy and varied diet, drinking water can do wonders for your energy levels and can even boost your libido too! So there you have it, drinking water is not just a lifesaver, but also adds to the quality of life that you lead! If you are going to change your eating and drinking habits then you may want to consult your medical doctor first." | I used to drink little water also and would only drink when I got really thirsty. Now I'm in the habit of always carrying a water bottle with me. Even when I'm at the office or at home, I have a .5l to a litre bottle. That way if i'm thirsty, water is only a reach away instead of walking somewhere. This stops me from saying "ahh...I'll drink later." Now if I forget the bottle of water, I feel like I'm naked heh. You are right...way more concentration and just more agility overall. |

| I agree with both Richard and Dimitry, water is the way to go. I've blogged about this very subject in a post called Liquid Motivation. Let me know what you think.

| Great post, hypno-therapist...thanks for sharing the info. Water is the most abundant, least expensive nutrient...and its importance to our quality of life/health is often overlooked. Also, it is important to note that thirst is not a good indictor of when it is time to drink. By the time one feels thirsty, they are already slightly dehydrated. Cheers! Jess Live Well |

| I definitely notice a huge difference in my body's responsive levels when I'm consistently sipping on green tea or water throughout the day. |

My colleague told me that an excellent way to tell if you have had enough water is that your urine will be colourless. This is a cool indicator as to whether you are getting enough water. He also posted a cool little remnder tool in the Great Friday Freebies! section of the forum. |

| Actually you can - it can lead to water intoxification which could also lead to death. But drinking sensibly will be ok. |

| Another note - if you have been on the beer then this will also make your urine colourless, however you will actually be dehydrating yourself! When I drink, I follow the pint for a pint rule - I drink a pint of water for every pint of beer. This keeps those nasty hangovers at bay. |

| The only thing that puzzles me is - why are our, otherwise brilliantly self sustaining, bodies not very optimal in some matters like this ? Why does the body not demand sufficient hydration through thirst ? Roy. |
