Default Sleeping Less

I want to try and sleep only four hours a day.
Has anyone here accomplished a goal like this?
How did you deal with the initial grogginess (if you had any)?
How do you increase the quality of your sleep?
Thanks in advance.

Yes I experimented with that while young. It had a bad effect on me. Studies show that it greatly weakens the immune system. If you drive a car and fall asleep and kill someone they may convict you of murder in some states.

Maria Carey has had more hit songs than anyone except The Beatles. She said that her nervous breakdown was from lack of sleep. The cause on most of the bad health in America is because they over-eat and under-sleep. People should get the maximum sleep and wake up when their body decides to.

Yeah, I'm not sure sleep is one of those things you can decide to economize. You can prioritize it and make sure that you get quality sleep and maximize the time you spend sleeping, but I think that most of us probably have an optimal kind of "set point" for the sleep we need. I know that I usually need about 6 hours a night. My husband would be on a psychotic rampage in the streets if he had to get by on that! He's simply not functional with anything less than 8 hours for any length of time. It's just how we're made.

What you can do though is make sure that when you do sleep, you get the best sleep you can, then you don't need "extra" to catch up, if that makes sense. If you Google "sleep hygiene" you should get some good ideas. Things like turning off TV's and computers an hour or two before you want to go to sleep, sleeping in a dark room, not cool, not hot, no TV/radio/iPod on. There are all kinds of helpful things like that.

Your goal should be to quality instead of minising quantity.

I have a friend who did breatharianism through the 21-day process of Jasmuheen. It's tough, and not everyone can do it, but he did tell me he only slept 4 hours a day when he was living off prana.

If you're really determined to sleep 4 hours a day look into breatharianism.

As a rule of thumb, you can't get less sleep than what your body needs, and you can't train your body to require less sleep. So the only option is to increase the quality of your sleep so you gain your required sleep but in less time.

The best and easiest way of doing this is to improve you sleep efficiency, that is the time you go to bed minus the time you fall asleep. Also make sure you understand how much time you need to spend asleep each night to ensure you don't oversleep.

You could change your sleeping pattern to a polyphasic one but that's quite a difficult change to go through requiring plenty of planning, dedication, self discipline and down time. It can also be pretty hard to stick to in daily life since it's not the social norm. A biphasic sleep pattern may be best to start off with.

And of course you always look into improving your productivity during the day, that way you can afford the extra time in bed.

At one point I was sleeping like 6 and felt great. I was eating SO many fruits all day long. That's about all the advice I can.

It is definitely worth trying though. I have tried going polyphasic twice now although I was only 14 years old at the time and was not very healthy so that would have been why I failed. Still, it was worthwhile because I learnt so much about sleep and a few nights I was up all night and then able to watch the sun come up and still be awake during the day.

Why would you only want to sleep that much anyway? Back in my teen years, I thought sleep was just a waste of time. Now, I'd stay in bed all day if I didn't have anyone to feed/cook for.

I've never understood why people desire to sleep less. It is the time we heal, and fix what ails us. It is probably the most important aspect of good health. I never sleep less than 8 hours a day, and shoot for 9.

Well there's always polyphasic sleep. Can't beat 2 hrs of sleep a day

I have been having good luck with the Everyman 2-Nap schedule. I sleep a total of 5.17 hours/day. I think I will eventually try the Everyman 3-Nap, which will reduce my daily sleep requirements to 4 hours. It sounds like the 3-Nap might be worth looking into for your situation. It is easy to find information about it, but if you want a quick over view I wrote about it in my blog a while back: The Everyman 3-Nap Sleep Schedule.

The Best way to improve quality of Sleep is to make improve in your daily routine. I have almost same kind of problem , mine is kind of apnea.

Just do excercise regularly, eat fresh foods and do some work out also . If you are healthy and fit you will have a good sleep. And dont think a lot , especially before sleep.

If you are idle that means your minds will think of many things. so bit of regular work gave you a perfect sleep.

These ways are just simple and easy , try it , surely you will be having no more grogginess problem.

Hope this will help you.
