Do you already understand how this works? Pilots of hi-tech jets were passing out on steep turns due to too little blood in their brains. So a respected cardiopulmonary physiologist was hired to raise blood pressure so this would not happen. So he created a throttle where they could squeeze it (isometric handgrip therapy) and not pass out. Then the pilot's blood pressure would get lower over time (permanent effect). See the temporary effect produces an opposite permanent effect. Medicine calls it homeostasis. So they now have a device for people called a Zona-Plus where you do the same thing and lower blood pressure according to Harvard studies done. It costs $350. So how do you decrease your heart/pulse rate? By increasing it. You exercise (cardio) and it increases heart rate and permanent effect is lower resting heart rate. Cardio also raises blood pressure so it can make it lower. If you have no trouble sleeping then take sleeping pills and you will have trouble falling asleep without them. So when you take drugs like alcohol or pot to feel good or relaxed, the permanent effect is to make you more tense and miserable. Timothy Leary and Richard Albert experimented taking huge amounts of LSD. They got very high from it and then went into the depths of hell. Yoga and exercise can be hard and put a strain on you and make you feel uncomfortable. But then it provides a permanent effect of calm and feeling good. See how that works?
